The siege of Mackinac did prove successful but Walker was forced to return the island to Michigan after losing it in a poker game two weeks later. Having exhausted his urge for conquest, at least temporarily, he turned his gormless gaze inward. Not on himself of course but on his own estates. His constituents would rue the scrutiny.
He called upon his good friend Karl Rove who's advising tongue was always at the ready. Rove told Walker that, "Although your flock is dull, they are not dull enough. The enlightenment has made them uppity. You must undo it's vile influence."
"Yes," replied the governor, "we must dissolve enlightenment principles back into the murky superstitions of our past. It will be a de-lightenment", he said smiling.
Rove smirked. "Now you've got it kid!" he said slapping Walker on his bare back as he got up and exited the sauna.
