Regulus

Regulus stood laughing as he watched Theo try to talk to a Hufflepuff in the year above. He soon came over, defeated, and took a drink off of the table at which Regulus was stood at.

"Tough luck mate." They both took a drink of firewhiskey and watched the crowd of people singing and dancing along to the music. Regulus recognised the song playing as one that Sirius would blast through the house at early hours in the morning, he would hum it nonstop throughout the day causing him to get punished by their parents. Regulus often found himself humming the same song when the house seemed too quiet but stopped himself before his parents recognised it. He quietly sang along under his breath.

"I'm going to see if Olivia wants to dance." Theo walked away before Regulus could reply but he soon found himself being joined by Betsy.

"Hi." She took a cup of firewhiskey and downed it, flinching slightly from the burning.

"Hey." He laughed slightly at her face. "You look nice."

"Thank you. I wasn't sure about the dress but I think I like it." The dress that she was wearing was black, the underneath a plain black spaghetti strap dress but the top layer was sheer and sparkly and had long sleeves. Her usually straight hair had been curled and was slightly messy. "You don't look half bad yourself, but." She reached up and undid the top two buttons of his shirt. He had decided on a plain black shirt tucked into a pair of loose black jeans and a long, blazer style, jacket. "There. No date?"

He shook his head. "You?"

"No. Came with friends." At this point the song changed. "I love this song!" She exclaimed and held her hand out to him. "Come on!" He shook his head at her again. "Come. On." She told him more forcefully.

"I don't dance."

"I don't care."

Knowing that she would not give up, he downed the rest of his drink before taking hold of her hand. It was soft, but there was rough patches at the top of her palm which he assumed was from playing quidditch. She led him onto the dance floor and spun round to face him. At first he was reluctant but soon got into it, the song finished and Betsy leaned into him laughing.

"You can so dance."

"I never said I couldn't." He reminded her. "I said I didn't."

"Well you should." She ran her hands through her hair. "It's bloody boiling in here. I need another drink."

Knowing how she had downed the last drink, Regulus thought it would be best not to let her do that again. He wasn't sure what her alcohol tolerance was but he didn't want to risk it.

"Why don't we just go outside and get some fresh air?"

"Yeah, okay." She then turned to face into the crowd. "SIRIUS?!" He was confused as to why she was calling his brother. Sirius was dancing in the middle of the floor, a group of friends around him. He looked up at his name being called and Betsy made a gesture with her hands, apparently he understood what she meant as he reached into his pockets and threw something to her, she caught it one-handed and turned back to him. He noticed it was a gold box. "Let's go." She told him before he could ask what it was.

The muffled sound of music could still be heard from the corridor outside, it was approaching midnight and their breath clouded slightly in front of them as they breathed out. He automatically wrapped the jacket he had brought around her shoulders as she hadn't brought one.

"You need to stop doing that. You'll catch something if you keep giving your jacket away." She shook the jacket off of her and handed it back to him. He took it in his hands, only to wrap it round her again.
