HEART

Namaari

"Who's hungry?"

A warrior from Spine raised his hand enthusiastically. His leader, however, gave him a stern look in reply. Making a disappointed groan, he put his hand down.

I chuckled.

I looked at Mother, requesting her permission. "Go ahead. It's alright," Mother nodded her head.

With my head down, I shyly walked to Raya. "Hi... I'm Namaari of Fang."

"Hi Namaari, I'm Raya!" Her eyes landed on it. "Is that Sisu?" She gasped with surprise.

She was referring to the dragon necklace I was wearing. I nodded, with a big smile on my face.

"Ah, sorry, um... Yeah, I might be a little bit of a dragon nerd." She said jokingly.

Wow, she's a dragon nerd too?  "Hey, I'm the one wearing the Sisu fan necklace."

Raya laughed. "Come on," she said, grabbing my hand and leading me up the stairs. "Have you eaten yet?"

***

Raya laughed, "She actually said that?"

"Awkward, I know," I replied. She is quite funny.

"Okay, next question," Raya said as she took the last skewer of meat. "Hand to hand, or swords?"

She handed me the kebab stick. "Blades all day!" I said as I swung my kebab like a sword.

"Right?!" She looked at me in the eyes with eagerness. My turn.

"Okay, dressy, or casual?"

"Only a monster would choose to wear this outfit on the regular." Raya pulled the collar of her shirt and rotated her arms to show how uncomfortable it was. I laughed. Just like me.

"Uh, rice or stew?" She motioned to the vegetable stew and rice that was placed in front of us on the mat. Looking down, I hesitated, silence filling the air. I frowned, not knowing how to answer. Never had rice in such a long time...

"I... didn't think that that'd stump you," she apologized.

"Uh..." I shook my head and forced a smile. "This is actually one of the first times I had rice in a while," I said as I picked up the plate.

"Really?"

"Fang might look nice on the outside, but we have some pretty big holes on the inside," I explained sadly. Anger filled up within me. It's all because you have the Dragon Gem. Without it, your kingdom wouldn't be able to survive.

"Oh."

I have to play it cool. "Sorry, didn't mean to bring it down," I placed the plate back onto the floor.

"So, where were we? We both have single parents who are terrible at telling jokes, we're both warrior women who despised uncomfortable formal wear..."

"And we're both Sisu super fans!" Raya finished.

"Yeah," I giggled. Playing around with my hair, I turned back to Raya.

"You know, Fang legends say, she's still out there..." I looked at Raya intently.

"Sisu? You're kidding, right?"

I smirked. "Wanna see something?"

I whipped out my mother's scroll. Its rough papyrus paper rubbed against my calloused hands.
