"Liam had better win this game." You grumble to yourself. It's a late night, and you should be comfortably in your house, studying for the test you have first thing tomorrow. Instead, you're walking through the cold to a lacrosse game. Were it not for the fact that Liam's your best friend and also team captain, you could be prepared for your test. But no, here you are.

Liam's been your friend since forever. You met him before he became a werewolf, but you were quick to accept him for what he was and have been a valuable ally to the McCall pack ever since. You and Mason can work together on any supernatural troubles facing Beacon Hills and come up with solutions faster than you could blink.

Speaking of Mason, you break into a light jog when you see your friend talking with Liam and one other boy, whose back is turned to you. "Hey, Mason, Liam!" You greet your friends, and they turn to you excitedly. "Hey, Y/N! Glad you're here. I refuse to be alone during lacrosse games." Mason throws an arm around your shoulders, and you both laugh. However, your laughter dies on your lips when you notice the other boy talking to your friends. He's tall, and wearing a green Devenford Prep lacrosse jersey. He's also got to be one of the most attractive boys you've ever seen in your life.

"Oh, right. This is Brett-" Brett smoothly interrupts Mason to greet you himself. "Brett Talbot. And who might you be?" "Oh, I'm Y/N." Brett raises his eyebrows interestedly. "As in Y/N L/N? Like-" Now it's your turn to interrupt Brett. "Yeah, like Iliana L/N. She's my older sister." Already, you can feel your happiness with meeting Brett fading. Does everyone have to bring up your older sister?

Your thoughts are broken off by the sound of a loud whistle coming from the other side of the lacrosse field. "Well, we better get going. The game will start soon." Liam and Brett wave goodbye, then jog off to their separate teams. Mason turns to you with a gloating grin.

"Well, what did I say? Tell me you think he's hot. I need to hear you say it." You roll your eyes at Mason as you two climb up the bleachers and find a seat. "Yeah, whatever. He's hot." Mason gives you a knowing look. "You're just mad because he mentioned your sister." You groan, putting your head in your hands. "Why is it that every single boy has to know my sister? He was doing just fine until he said her name."

You have the unlucky condition of having Iliana L/N as your older sister. She's like everyone's dream girl. She's prettier than you, more outgoing, more popular, more athletic- you could go on all night. It feels like everyone in Beacon Hills has compared you to her at some point. Which is a shame, too- you felt captivated by Brett Talbot from the second you saw him, but he had to go and mention your sister. No one has ever liked you for you, just for your connection with your sister.

However, as you watch Brett, powerful and athletic on the lacrosse field, you can't help but think about him. He's hot, yes, but he's also confident and knows exactly how to get to you. Every time he glances up at you from the field, you can't help but feel a little jump in your heart. You sigh, though, and lock the feeling away. Brett would never be interested in you.

After the game, you and Mason make your way over to your friends. You congratulate Liam and Corey on a game well played, and you're more than happy to see Brett come join you. Surprisingly, he seems really nice, and talks to you for a long time. Is this really the same boy who bullied Liam?

It's funny, though- he asked you if you needed a ride home and seemed oddly disappointed when you said no. He even offered to walk you to your car, which was unnecessary, as you could both see it parked only a few feet away. Whatever, maybe he was tired from the lacrosse game and wasn't thinking straight.

The same thing happens the next time you're with Liam, Mason, and Corey for a mini pack meeting. Brett drops by to talk about Satomi's pack, and he keeps smiling at you and paying the most attention to you out of anyone there. You're not even a werewolf! And, to make things even stranger, you saw him talking with Liam when you came back from getting yourself a drink. You couldn't hear much, just your name. He seemed so disappointed- why would that be? You just shrug to yourself. You're not sure how much longer he'll want to talk to you- no boy ever really does. Trust me, Brett isn't the first boy to try to get close to you in the hopes of getting close to your sister instead. It broke your heart the first couple of times, back when you really had your heart set on a few boys who first paid attention to you. It would only be a few weeks, or even days, before you caught them making out with Iliana. After that, you learned to never give your heart away to anyone. They would always switch it out for your sister's.
