THIRD PERSON POV
Yelena Belova was happy (okay, happy was too strong of a word... content) to follow orders and do whatever it took to successfully complete a mission. But going undercover was not one of them.
So, when the people at S.H.I.E.L.D. told her about an undercover mission they needed her to do, she was not satisfied, and she was starting to regret offering to do things a different way with her sister, Natasha.
"I don't understand why I can't just go in, threaten this Y/N person and her family and find out if they are funnelling information to Hydra instead of pretending to be her friend and doing it the long way," Yelena deadpanned as the two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and Natasha met up with her to discuss the details. "My way is much quicker and I can have the information you're looking for in seconds."
Agent Bowden sighed as he watched Yelena with an unmoving expression. "That's not how we do things here, Agent Belova–"
"I'm not an agent," Yelena corrected him. She'd agreed to work with them, but not for them.
"Yelena...," Natasha said with a warning tone, giving her a knowing look.
The blonde in question rolled her eyes but straightened up in her seat, in an effort to show she was listening.
"As I was saying," Agent Bowden continued, "that's not how we do things here. We don't reveal our cover and we don't kill innocents. We just need you to befriend Y/L/N and find out who in her family, if not all, is communicating with Hydra."
Yelena pursed her lips, resisting the urge to argue that her method would have been easier and much quicker. The case discussed wasn't a difficult one – some family in Connecticut where the parents, who were cryptographers and owned their own, very successful, business were rumoured to be Hydra conspirators. The daughter, Y/N, was at university, following in her family's footsteps which is why she was also being considered as working with Hydra. And then there was the youngest, Y/S/N, who probably didn't even know what cryptography was. Yelena knew one visit could put this all to rest, but... she promised Natasha she'd try things their way for a change.
"Okay, I got it," she finally spoke up, agreeing with the agents. "My cover. What is it?"
Beside Agent Bowden was Agent Wright, who was smiling a little too excitedly, despite the fact that the whole reason they were there was to stop Hydra from resurfacing.
