"He won't know it's us."
"I know, but-"
"But what? It'll be awesome! C'mon, he deserves a lot worse," I exclaimed excitedly to my best friend, Y/BF/N.
She seemed reluctant still, but she said, "Fine. Make it quick."
I grinned excitedly and pulled her so we were both ducking down behind a bush in the park. We'd spotted her ex whilst we were walking about when I had the genius idea to throw a water balloon at him. It was merely harmless fun for us, plus he deserved that and much worse for breaking up with Y/BF/N over text.
"I still can't believe you stole a little kid's water balloon...," Y/BF/N mumbled as I closed one eye to line up my throwing arm.
"He had a whole bag full," I defended myself, seeing her ex coming into sight. "Now, shush. I need to concentrate."
"Yeah, yeah..."
I could see him stood there on his phone, one foot on his skateboard as he paused to text. I bit my lip to contain my excitement before finally throwing the water balloon with all my strength. Y/BF/N and I watched it soar through the air, over some locals who were having picnics, expecting it to hit him.
Except it didn't.
At the last second, he skateboarded away and the balloon burst onto some innocent bystander eating an ice cream, which was now all over her shirt.
"Oh my god, Y/N."
"Shit," I cursed, eyes widening as I looked to Y/BF/N.
"Hey, you threw it!" she yelled at me, before standing up and pulling me up with her. "Go and apologise!"
"Apologise," I said, nodding frantically, "yeah."
I looked back to the poor girl and immediately raced over to her. Some people around us were looking to her with confusion - some pitying her and others laughing at her dismay. I felt guilty as I approached her, noticing her red face.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry about that!" I got out, earning her attention. "I didn't mean to throw that at you, honestly! I- er- I-" But I didn't know what to say because the dark-haired stranger was glaring furiously at me and I cowered away in fear.
Without uttering a word, she clenched her jaw and turned around, marching away. I noticed her clenched fists and breathed a sigh of relief that she didn't punch me, but I still felt really bad.
