One month later

Another thirty days passed as (Y/N) was back on the front lines the following day after his 'duel' with Esdeath. Life at his home went back to normal as he was able to roam around his house at will. The only problems now were that he had to cook his own food and his bed felt colder and much larger with only him sleeping in it. But that was the least of his concerns as the voices and visions continued to haunt (Y/N). The voices were getting progressively louder and the visions became more vivid and aggressive. (Y/N) truly felt like he was going insane, but he couldn't show anyone and forced himself to bottle it in until it was just him by his lonesome. Only then would he succumb to his own madness.

The morales of Run, Wave, Kurome and Bols rose following (Y/N)'s return. In their short few months of being teammates, they had all built a good amount of comradery with each other. And if the four of them had learned only one thing, it was that (Y/N) was not nearly the apathetic, emotionless, and ruthless killer that the public had perceived his image to be.

Quiet and reserved? Yes. And ruthless wouldn't be the word the other four would use when describing (Y/N)'s executions. He preferred to be quick and efficient above all else and rarely would he ever speak a word while doing so. And (Y/N) isn't exactly fond of those weaker than him, but he isn't nearly as bad as his... Admirer? Let's call her that.

Ever since the manhunt for Tatsumi came to a screeching halt, he became an afterthought in the mind of Esdeath. In his place, her new object of obsession was the Black Heart of The Empire. Well, she hadn't come that far yet. To those with a brain and held some semblance of common sense, it was painfully obvious that Esdeath had romantic feelings for (Y/N). But with the way (Y/N) interacted with her, it was a bit difficult to tell whether he felt the same way or not. (Y/N) preferred to keep himself as unreadable as possible most of the time so only he could truly answer that question.

Meanwhile, in that same month, Night Raid has been training. The Marg Highlands proved to be excellent training grounds for the group of revolutionary assassins as they have all grown exponentially in a short thirty days. Whether it was enough for them to take down the Jaegers, their main targets of assassination at the moment would have to wait to be seen. But Night Raid knew that losing was not an option.

Right now, all of Night Raid stood in front of 'Boss' as they had just finished up another session of training.

'Boss': "Well done. You've proven that you can easily kill the Danger Beasts in this area."

Tatsumi: "I noticed some of the different types like to attack out of nowhere, so you can't let your guard down."

Leone: "I like it! It makes it so much more interesting!"

'Boss': "The air is thin up here. After training in such a harsh environment, I'm sure all of you have leveled up quite a bit."

Mine: "You're right! I can totally feel the difference!"

'Boss': "Chelsea. What are your thoughts on Night Raid now that you've been with us for a month."

Chelsea: "Hmm. You're all strong. In fact I'd say you're all stronger than anyone from my old team. That being said, you can't survive on just strength alone. I've read your old reports. Sheele and Bulat were both killed in the line of duty. The issue isn't that they weren't good people, it's that those two are incompetent."

This did not sit well with the older members of Night Raid, especially Mine.

Mine: "What?!"

Chelsea: "All I'm saying is if you don't get it together, then you're not gonna last long enough to see this through to the end."
