Chapter 29: Dark and Light

"Damn, Gintoki. I can't believe he made so much sound up there before leaving like crazy with Shinpachi. Ah, I'm getting too old for this" Otose said while cleaning her glasses of drinks. It was nighttime and Otose was taking care of her store while her employees, Catherine and Tama were on their day off. Otose sigh while looking at the picture of her and her husband, Terada Tatsugorou. Okay, now we're going to know Otose's past. When Otose was known as Ayano, a beautiful young woman who was very kind-hearted and forgiving as feeding the homeless. She was married to a heroic soldier Tatsugorou whom she loved so dearly even after his death. Tatsugorou went to war and died as a hero by saving his comrade which affects Otose deeply which she never got remarried afterward due to her deep love for Tatsugorou.  But she wasn't alone, she was with the Yoshida Twins, Utsuro and Shouyou, and the orphan half Yato Kouka. 

They took care of her well after her husband's death. Otose helps them to get proper education and getting into great students by keeping their secrets safe since Utsuro and Shouyou were members of the Ryuumaku Clan while Kouka, a hybrid of Ryuumaku and Yato.  She loved them as they were her own children. She was saddened when Utsuro left Edo for revenge on those who murder and discriminate against his clan. She even got motherly protective on Kouka when she met her future husband Umibozu, who she didn't like since his perverted behavior on their first counter. She thought that Kouka date someone with a great personality like her late husband or Shouyou. But later, she accepts him when she saw him really love Kouka and teaching her about the Yato Clan by telling her his silly adventures. 

She even gives him her blessing when he comes clean that he was going to marry Kouka. 

She took care of Gintoki when Shouyou died that devasted his beloved students, she was too hurt by his death but she needed to be strong for them. Otose has seen everyone she loved dies before her eyes. She would have depression or even thinking suicidal thoughts but the ones she loved always lived in her heart and knowing they need her to live for the new generations of them. She wasn't alone anymore, she has her family still. 'By the many years, I live. I have my children taking care of me. Tatsugorou, you rejected that we didn't have time for us getting a child when you went to war but I'm not alone. I have my family here despite all the crazy things they do. I bet you're getting along well with Shouyou-Kun and Kouka-san. I'm happy with my family here' Otose thought while giving a sincere smile. 

Otose soon heard the door open which she sighs. "Didn't you see the sign. It's close. You can come on Friday if you're really for a drink" "That's a harsh thing to say to an old friend, Ayano-san" Otose soon turns around and seeing Utsuro standing there in her store. Utsuro have the same identical appearance to Shouyou but different. His long light brown hair was combined back as his grey eyes give a emotionless expression than his kindness and gentle twin brother. He was wearing a black kimono on top of a cape and a katana on his sash. Otose was greatly shocked seeing the boy who she cared for turn into a merciless murder. "U-Utsuro-Kun?" She spoke out of surprised which Utsuro smile like his brother's gentle smiles but his was emotionless empty.

"What are you doing here?" Otose asked as she didn't know what to do. She couldn't convince him to stop his hatred vengeance against Japan along with Shouyou and Kouka. He just left and walk away when he was just 16. "You know well that I won't stop at anything unlit I turn Japan into a bloodbath and chaos. The best way to start is by destroying the members of the Royal Family along with their government...I want to make all the people suffer as I suffered when they took everything from me..." He said monotone and cold which got Otose slightly sweating. He wasn't the same boy like before. He turn merciless, cold, and almost like a evil spirit that won't stop unlit he gets his vengeance. "But still...You're along with Kouka's children and other Ryuumaku members are the only thing I have left. Ayano-san, you been always a good and kind person. I don't want you to get involve into this mass destruction...you better leave the country as much as you can...I heard that Okinawa is better good for elders of your age...even Shouyou enjoy going there..." Utsuro said which Otose was surprised.

He was there. The boy she cared and raised was still there in that cold and cold-blooded man. Otose soon catch something that Utsuro throws. She soon open it up as she was shocked what she was seeing. "Utsuro-Kun! What in the-" "I found out few years ago...I wonder what was the reason why my little brother go often to Okinawa. Once you and Kouka's kids leave Japan. I take care of his last legacy. The first of the Ryuumaku Clan demeans on you...It was great to see you again, Ayano-san" Utsuro said before disappearing into the darkness. Otose look at it before sighing while remembering how Utsuro used to be.

'Don't worry, Ayano-san! When me, Shouyou, and Kouka get older, we will protect you how you protect us! Just wait unlit we get taller, okay!'
