Chapter 21

“Hey Rose can I help you in the kitchen today? I have no homework today since school is almost out.” She turned around with a smile and hand gestured for me to get near her. “Sure you can help Austin peel and squish those potatoes while I get this casserole started.”

Walking towards the hot pot with the boiling potatoes I grabbed a white kitchen towel. Once I had drained out the hot water I had run cold water into the pot for the potatoes to cool. I did that at least twice before I stopped the faucet and just left the potatoes to sit in the cold water. I couldn’t help but think that someone was staring at me so I turned around only to find Austin looking at me as if I were foreign. “What? I was not going to burn myself were you?”

He just shook his at me and said “I will get the potato smasher and bowl.” With that he went searching while I started peeling away.  Each potato that I finished peeling I rinsed it off and put them on the counter while Austin took them and mashed them right away. We had both finished with the potatoes in no more than ten to fifteen minutes. Austin had started putting the salt and pepper and other seasoning so I started cleaning up the peels and the dishes.

Rose was doing her finishing touches on the chicken casserole so cleaned around her. It’s funny because none of us ever crashed with one another; it was as if we knew where exactly the other person was standing in the kitchen. That is until Austin fell on his ass and I couldn’t help put crack up at him. Rose joined in with my laughter while Austin glared at the two of us. “Awww did poor Austin slip?”

“So not funny Sam, your dam potato peel made me slips” he said grumpily. “Austin be a big boy and get up and stop complaining. Come on.” Rose said with a big smile.

I couldn’t help but laugh at Roses comment and shook my head at Austin as I walked out of the kitchen. Before I knew it Austin had pulled me down to the floor with him and started tickling me like crazy. In the end we were all laughing so hard until Austin pulled me back up. After we composed ourselves we walked into the living room to play some Jenga.

Weird right I guess I just wasn’t expecting it. ? I never thought that we would be playing this but it was what Rose and Austin did after prepping dinner. The two of them were just something but I liked it. They literally just made me forget all of worries and just let me feel like I was a part of them.

Austin would always nudge me every time it was my turn making me drop the dam thing at least twice. So I would shove him back every time it was his turn and he would always drop it since I practically shook him. The three of us couldn’t stop laughing and somehow we were even nudging Rose too. It got so bad that we couldn’t even build the tower anymore. I gave up in the end and decided to crack up at Rose and Austin because they were literally wrestling to stack up the tower. After a while we went to check on the casserole and ate. We continued laughing into the night until we all just decide to call it a night. I went to sleep happy for the first time this week.

The next morning I beat Austin to the shower and changed into a light blue buttoned shirt and dark blue skinny jeans. Once I was done straightening my hair I pulled on my black knee boots and out the door to the kitchen. “Morning Rose and Austin” I said cheerfully.

“Morning” the two said while eating their pancakes. I began to eat my breakfast as Rose was finishing up. “Okay well I got to go you two, have a nice day” she said walking out to the front door. Austin and I both replied with a goodbye and continued eating.

Time seemed to fly by now I mean I only had two months of school to go. I couldn’t wait to finish school and move out but what was I going to do with myself? I guess I better get my head straight because I do not have time to mess around. Yheah I sent in those applications to college and I did get accepted but I just don’t know anymore. Maybe I should go and major in the arts but what am I going to do after that? Ugghhh life is too hard! After scolding myself I realized Austin had said something but I was in lala land.
