True to her word, Melissa steered clear of Ven's room, keeping the others away from them too, making sure they at least received food for every meal, although she couldn't make them eat. She refused the extra time she had doing anything other than studying, not that she really had anything in particular to study for, so what she was doing was trying to be able to regurgitate the textbooks for each of her subjects.

Fortunately, Ven felt comfortable around Melissa again after a relatively short amount of time. Melissa hadn't even been able to memorise her charms textbook, the first one she had chosen on remembering. When they were comfortable leaving the room they went to Melissa first, sitting next to her and leaning their head on her shoulder.

"Ven?" Melissa asked, looking down to Ven's head on her shoulder, glad she was able to see them again. "I'm really sorry, I was only trying to suggest they were going to kiss. I know that you'll never be able to forget about what happened, and you don't have to, I'll be here for you no matter what. I'm really sorry that I reminded you of that, it was completely my fault and I really want you to feel safe around me, and I'm going to try to catch myself out on it too."

"I forgive you, it's his fault anyway, not yours. Can we pretend this didn't happen?" Ven asked, keeping their head on her shoulder.

"Whatever makes you more comfortable." Melissa agreed, turning away from her text book to play with their shirt hair.

"Draco?" Harry asked, his voice sounding more confident and less unused now, but he still wasn't very loud, and was almost inaudible if someone he didn't know or didn't trust was around them.

"Hm? What's up?" Draco asked, looking up from his book to glance at Harry, neither of them having their hair neat, Harry's much messier than normal, Draco's idea of messy is maybe 3 hairs out of place, which frustrated Harry, his hair never laying properly.

"What are the unforgivable curses?" Harry asked more quietly than he had before, still not used to being allowed and even encouraged to ask questions.

"Oh, they're spells that are now considered so illegal that if you get caught using them you're going straight to Azkaban, the wizard prison. They're not inherently evil no matter what people say. There are three, and they were originally developed for medical purposes. One of the most well known ones is the killing curse, the one you survived as a baby. That one was developed to help people who were incurable and would otherwise suffer, it gave them control over when they die, and able to let them die painlessly. The second one is the spell that generates a lot of pain signals. This one is the one that makes the least sense for medical reasons, as it's basically torture, but it was originally designed to help people who were trapped in their own minds get jerked back into their bodies. It didn't exactly work the way intended as it tends to drive people into their own minds." Draco explained, putting his books down. Only pure bloods knew the histories of the different spells labelled as dark, and even then, the families who want to remember why the spells were made are often labelled as dark.

"And what's the last one?" Harry asked, looking at Draco with wide eyes, super interested in what he was being told. He felt more like he belonged in the magical world than the muggle one, but it hurt knowing that he knew almost none of what everyone else who belonged in this world did.

"That's the spell that's used to control people. It gives the person under it a sense of comfort and security. It was developed to help protect people from themselves when they're trying to end themselves. It's honestly terrible that it's not still legal in certain circumstances because it's not impossible to fight it off if you're told to do something you disagree with. It's still used in the old pure blood families when young children are extremely sick because it will make them feel like they're okay, but they don't end up making it worse by playing." Draco explained. He had been put under the imperius curse when he had Dragon pox when he was little. He mostly had it at night so that he could get to sleep and so that he was able to do what the Healer needed him to do so that he wasn't curled up sobbing in pain or pushing the Healer away.

"But do they get a choice?" Harry asked, he knew what it was like to have someone make all the decisions for you, and was used to the idea of the feeling of comfort and safety being the calm before the storm, that the Dursleys would always destroy it.

"Not if they're about to end themselves, but if they're ill they get it as an option in the older families." Draco said, he really didn't see the problem with it, but he knew that Harry didn't have the same life experiences as him and so had different insecurities and fears.

"Okay." Harry said, flopping himself into Draco's lap. "Will you tell me if you think of something important that I need to know?"

"Of course. I'm here for you and I want you to be able to know everything that I do or anyone else in the magical community. You're probably going to be the next head of the Potter line. While you're a halfblood, they still count as a pureblood line, we can help each other in the future." Draco said, pulling Harry closer to him. Of course, he didn't only want to support Harry because of him being the future head of the Potter line, but it wasn't something that was untrue. He wanted to be the person who helped Harry reach his full potential so they could stand side by side.
