The group of 4 that looked mostly proud and powerful, but slightly odd due to the tiny, scrawny, dark haired boy with them, walked into the pet shop. Of course, Draco already had an owl, but as he was going to Hogwarts, he deserved a new pet as well. Another reason was that they were sure Harry didn't have an owl.

"Ssssstupid humansssssss" Harry heard from one of the tanks they passed on their way inside. He had a double take, looking at where the voice had come from. What he saw was a yellow, green and black Christmas tree eyelash viper. (That's what Google says the below picture is anyway.)

"What do you want, human?" The snake asked, seeming annoyed that Harry was looking at it, he was slightly, he thought he had only been imagining it at the zoo, but here was another snake, talking to him

"What do you want, human?" The snake asked, seeming annoyed that Harry was looking at it, he was slightly, he thought he had only been imagining it at the zoo, but here was another snake, talking to him.

"Harry? Aren't you going to choose an owl?" Draco asked, noticing Harry was still looking at the snake.

'Did you hear the snake talk?' Harry asked, needing someone else to hear the snake, he needed to not be the only one. Of course, Draco didn't know sign language, so went and got his mother to translate, to whom he repeated the message, ignoring the snake that was asking why he was waving his hands around.

"You understood the snake?" Narcissa asked, sounding surprised. Harry nodded slightly, sagging at the realisation that it wasn't normal, even for wizards. "Try talking to it."

"But mother, he can't talk, how would he talk to the snake?" Draco asked, looking at his mother with confused eyes.

"Ssssso thissss human can't talk to other humansssss..." The snake hissed behind them, almost sounding gleeful.

"Parseltongue, the language of snakes, is mostly telepathic. Snakes are deaf after all. It's only said aloud because most wizards aren't used to talking with their minds." Narcissa explained, feeling proud that her son had befriended a clearly powerful wizard. Between exploding a wand and speaking Parseltongue, Harry could be the leader of the wizarding world if he wanted to be.

"Can you sssssstop being rude?" Harry asked the snake, mostly in his mind, although a hiss like breath could be heard by Narcissa and Draco.

"You really are a sssssspeaker? Sssssssorry masssssster." The snake hissed, backing away from the spell proof glass of its tank.

"What'sssss your name?" Harry asked, already at eye level with the snake, where Draco would have had to bend down. He enjoyed being able to talk to things again, not receiving blank looks from his signing, or abuse for his talking.

"I don't have one masssster, I'm only a hatchling." The snake replied, large, glittering eyes looking Harry in the eye.

"Do you want us to get the snake for you, Harry?" Narcissa asked, seeing the way the two small beings were looking at each other intently.

This snapped Harry out of his conversation with the snake, looking up at the woman with wide, shocked eyes. 'You've already done so much for me, I couldn't ask that of you.'

"I'm offering, so it's fine. Think of it as a gift." She said smiling, picking the tank up carefully, although causing the snake to show off all the colourful language it knew.

Harry stood there, looking confused, his hands raised as though he was about to sign something, but didn't know what he was going to sign. This didn't go unnoticed by Draco, who seemed to notice every little change in Harry's behaviour.

"Have you never had a gift before?" Draco asked, looking a mixture of shocked and angry at the idea of Harry never having received a gift. "What about on your birthday or Christmas?"

'D-U-D-L-E-Y got presents.' Harry signed out, looking like he finally understood what gifts were, not that he had ever received any.

"Dudley? And how could that person get presents but not you?" Narcissa asked, being the one to understand sign language.

'D-U-D-L-E-Y is my cousin. He deserves them and I don't, that's what the D-U-R-S-L-E-Y-S said.' Harry explained, making Narcissa's mouth open in shock. Draco didn't know what Harry had told them, but he knew it had to be bad to make his mother loose composure like that.

"How about you stay with us until term starts at Hogwarts? We have more than enough room and I'm sure Draco would love showing you around." Narcissa suggested, Draco nodding fervently beside her. She knew that there was still a lot about Harry's life she didn't know, but from what she could tell, those muggles were abusive, and she was not going to let her son's friend be abused.

Harry looked up at her, his eyes bright with excitement at the idea. He had never been to a friend's house before, let alone stayed there for a while. I mean, it's kinda hard to go to a friend's house when you don't have any. Harry smiled, the first time he had smile properly in a long time, and nodded.

"Now let's get you an owl." Draco said, grabbing harry's wrist and pulling him towards the back of the shop where all the owls were.

Harry was instantly drawn to a snowy owl in the corner. She was beautiful, although he couldn't see her eyes as she had her head tucked under her wing. He checked how much she cost. before going over to the desk to ask for her. In the end, Narcissa had to translate for him so that the store clerk could understand.

The Malfoys wanted to buy Hedwig, as Harry dubbed the owl, but they knew that it would probably be easier for harry to do it himself. One thing was for sure though, Harry was going to be thoroughly pampered while he stayed with them, starting with a new wardrobe.
