The flat next to ours has a pretty infamous reputation.

The first tenant that lived in that apartment later grew up to be a notorious serial killer. The next family that moved in all got busted for some meth lab they had built inside one of the rooms. Then some mildly-famous celebrity moved in after getting out of rehab because the apartment is so secluded from the city.

So, when I discovered the flat to be locked for the first time in almost two years, I am only naturally curious as to who it is that decided to move in in the dead of night.

My roommate, Niall, and I would usually venture into the vacant apartment to have a smoke –because Niall is a sissy about our apartment smelling like “Snoop Dog’s recording studio.” But, when I went to have a morning joint, I was instantly surprised when the door wouldn’t open.

Perhaps it’s another celebrity, maybe a drug-lord, or some gang leader? Oh, if I’m lucky, a hot blonde?

Whoever it is, I am determined to find out.

“26B is occupied.” I announce as soon as I burst open the door to the apartment.

Niall jumps from his seat on the couch and practically chokes on the bite of Froot-Loops in his mouth.

“Jesus, Harry,” He grumbles, before his eyes grow wide in realization, “Wait, really?! Who is it?”

“’mm not sure, they moved in sometime last night I suppose. I’m really hoping it’s not another murderer or rapist. Hopefully, someone really cool like Mic Jagger or somethin’. D’ya think we should ask Betsy? I’m sure she’ll know. We really shouldn’t just knock and-“

“Your rambling again, Harry.” Niall deadpans and bites back a laugh.

My mouth immediately shuts and I send him a glare. I can’t help that I tend to ramble when I’m nervous or excited about something. It’s a terrible habit I’ve had since I was wee. My thoughts tend to travel straight form my brain to my mouth without me stopping to filter through them.

“Let’s go ask Betsy then, mate! I have to stop by the café to catch Eliza before her shift at noon, so we better solve this mystery soon.” Niall jumps from the couch to change out of his Scooby-Doo pajamas.

I roll my eyes at the goofy grin that lit up his face at just the thought of seeing his girlfriend of almost a year. The two really made you want to vomit from how lovey-dovey they were around each other. Eliza could tell Niall to move to Siberia with him and he would already be packing his snow shoes. It is truly sickening.

They met just after the café down the street opened and bonded over their mutual love for iced coffee. It’s been smooth sailing ever since and I wouldn’t be surprised if Niall popped the question soon –even if the boy is barely twenty-one.

It’s not that I don’t like her, or them together really. If I’m being completely honest, I’m a tad jealous.

Niall has already found the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with, while I’m stuck in a dead-end relationship.

I like Jamie don’t get me wrong; she’s hot, super sweet, and loves me more than I can possibly imagine. She’s just… slightly… boring. I think she is so afraid that I’ll just stop liking her if she ever disagrees with me on anything. I could tell her I want chicken for dinner and she would eat it, even though she’s vegetarian. I could tell her that the capital of England is Russia and she would just bite her tongue and agree.
