"The Truth"

MISSIONARY: YOU WANT THE TRUTH?
I WAS THERE.
I WENT THROUGH THE RUINS OF HIS CAR.
I FOUND HIS WATCH.
I FOUND HIS NAME ENGRAVED.
YOU WANT PROOF?

(He drops JOMORRA's watch into her hands.)

MISSIONARY: WELL THERE YOU ARE.

JOMORRA: Not that truth, the other one, the real truth.

MISSIONARY: Imaculata, who is this lost soul?

JOMORRA: I'm her father!

MISSIONARY: You're a beggar and a bum... Ve. Go home, old man.

JOMORRA: 'Maculata, tell him!

IMACULATA: ...Please go. It's easier this way.

(Broken and old, JOMORRA moves towards the exit.)

JOMORRA: LIFE'S HARD,
         SO HARD.
         SOMETIMES YOU ASK YOURSELF
         "WHY COME SO FAR?"
         LIFE'S HARD,
         SO HARD,
         SOMETIMES...

(IMACULATA caresses the watch as the ghost of her father exits.)

IMACULATA: How did he die?

MISSIONARY: UNA BOMBA IN HIS CAR,
SET TO THE IGNITION.
COMPLETE DEMOLITION.
IT WAS NO ACCIDENT.
HE'S DEAD,
LA MUERTE.
JUST LIKE I SAID,
IT'S THE TRUTH.

IMACULATA: Who did it?

MISSIONARY: I HAVE AMIGOS IN THE C.I.A.,
GOOD MEN, HIGH-RANKING,
DESERVE WHAT THEY'RE PAID.
THEY SAW THE WHOLE SCENE,
THEY DID ALL THEIR WORK
UNDER THE DEEPEST OF COVERS
AND THE REDDEST ALERT.
THEY FOUND YOUR HOMBRE,
THEY DUG UP THAT TRASH:
AN OLD HIRED GUN
WITH THE EXPLOSIVES TO MATCH.

IMACULATA: A hired gun. Who paid him?

MISSIONARY: ARE YOU WILLING TO HEAR
THIS ULTIMATE TRUTH?
NO WHITE LIES, NO FILTERS
TO SALVAGE YOUR YOUTH?

IMACULATA: Please.

MISSIONARY: HIS ORDER TO KILL
CAME FROM RIGHT HERE AT HOME.
I ASSURE YOU THE GUILT
GOES RIGHT TO THE TOP.

IMACULATA: Diego.

MISSIONARY: Diego. The truth... Ve.

GO HOME AND SAY NOTHING
TO YOUR CRIPPLED LOVE.
SLEEP AT HIS SIDE WITHOUT DREAMING
OF WHAT HE'S THINKING OF.
(Aside) I HAVE UNCLE SAM'S HAT
AND I'LL PULL OUT THE DOVE.

(Fade to black.)
