(Viren's POV)
Viren stared impatiently at the mirror. Apparently Aaravos had gone out so he was stuck waiting. And waiting. He tapped his finger against the bowl. He ignored the ache in his chest as his heart fell. He hated waiting. When he had finally decided to go through with the ritual too. He had spent all evening wondering what would happen. Would Aaravos materialize before him? What would his voice sound like? Surely he was variable of speech. After an hour of waiting, Viren pulled the sheet over the mirror again. He stared at it for a moment before leaving the room.
The rest of the day was a blur. He didn't hear most of what people said, just nodding and grunting in response.
When night finally fell, he stood out on the balcony off his bedroom. There were millions of stars hanging above him. The cool night air blew through his hair, he closed his eyes And savored it. He stared up at the stars and sighed. "You're using me. I can feel it. And yet, I'm somewhat doing the same. In fact, that was exclusively what I thought of when we first met." He sighed and sat down, still staring up at the sky. "You won't allow me to read anything about you which is an obvious red flag but now.." He looked at his hands. "Something is different. I spend countless hours wondering what you read about and where it is that you are. I wonder if your skin feels similar to a human's and if your hair is as soft as it looks. Trivial things that should not matter in an alliance. Trivial things I wondered about few people before..." He out his head in his hands. "I feel so foolish. I talk to you as if you're here and yet fear betrayal so highly that I've hesitated to follow your instructions. What should I do?"
Silence fell and he could hear crickets chirping in the stance as well as the occasional hoot from an owl. He rose from where he was sitting and went back into his bedroom. He laid down and closed his eyes.
His imagination came to life, continuing to wander to Aaravos. Did he enjoy music? How much did he know about Viren? Was this alliance valuable to him or a mere toy to ease his boredom?
At night was when he missed his wife the most. His bed was cold and unwelcoming no matter how many layers of covers he added on. Though he spent his waking hours blaming her for what happened, in his heart he knew he was the cause. He didn't deserve her, their children, or his dear friend whose murder he choreographed. He was an evil man with an utterly black soul. While he tried to sleep was when he knew this with the most certainty. He didn't deserve happiness but still strived toward it blindly. He sacrificed valuable relationships in his blind lust for power. Would it ever end?
