[Happy Birthday Aaravos! 11/14/21]
(Viren's POV)
"Good morning." I answered before tilting my head. His hair was braided in the side of his hair instead of being down like it normally was. "Your hair is different today."
He smiled, looking at it and then at me. "It is indeed."
I smiled. "Is there a reason?"
He raised his eyebrows and leaned back. "Very perceptive of you."
I crossed my arms. "Is it a secret then?"
"Certainly not. Today is the day I came into the world, many years ago. Not a secret; it is simply unimportant and irrelevant." My eyes grew wide as I let my arms fall down by my sides.
"I disagree. At least for humans, birthdays are quite important."
"I am aware." He smiled.
I inched closet to the mirror. "Is there something that you want that I could help with?"
He tilted his chin upward with a grin. "A dangerous offer, to grant me anything I desire."
My heart skipped a beat as I met his eyes. There was a heat behind those fanned eyelashes. I laughed as heat filled my cheeks. "The offer stands." I tried to ignore my pulse resonating through my ears.
He came closer to the mirror, biting his lip and opening a spell book. "You will have to trust me. Can you do that?" I held my breath. What was he thinking? "Viren?" There were butterflies in my stomach. Him saying my name was the most beautiful sound...
I blinked several times before nodding.
"Yes, what is it?"
"Are you certain? This will require considerably more trust than last time." He said, his face very close to the mirror. I felt the urge to reach out and touch it, even though I know it would just be cold glass. I did it anyway. He smiled.
"Okay. What do I have to do?" I swallowed and straightened my back.
He looked down, biting his lip. "There is a chance it could not work and then... there would be severe consequences."
I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up. "Is there any way to guarantee it?"
He sighed, moving his hair from his beautiful face. "Regrettably, it requires the lack of certainty to work. We must trust that it will work... trust that..." He looked at his hands and I saw the tips of his ears turn pink. "The requirement has been fulfilled."
I had never seen him look so unsure of anything and it scared me a little. But it also made me smile. Maybe he did have a heart after all. I clenched my fists on top of my knees. "What do I have to do?" I asked, jutting out my jaw.
He smiled a sheepish smile, turning and grabbing a knife. "I will say an incantation. While I do so, we will each ready a dagger in front of our hearts. Once the incantation has been completed, we will plunge the blades into our breasts." As he was speaking, I pulled out my own dagger but dropped it when he said those last words.
"What?!" I said, the fear in my voice evident. I cleared my throat, composing myself as avoid sweat ran down my spine and the hairs on my arms stood on end.
"You heard me. I told you that it was dangerous."
"Aright." I crossed my arms. "What will it accomplish? What does the spell do?"
He smiled again before meeting my eyes. "It will bring me to you."
I gasped. "Oh." I said dumbly as my heart raced. Fear? Excitement? Who could say. "Let's do it."
Aarvaos smirked, the way he usually did and raised his chin. "Very well. Prepare yourself."
My face flushed but I nodded and prepared my dagger. He did the same and began reading the incantation. I kept forgetting to breathe as I watched him draw runes with his non-dominant hand. When he finished, the both of us plunged the daggers into place. I felt the hot searing pain and then cold. I was losing consciousness. Seconds passed like hours as I fell to the floor.

Did it work?
I woke up with a start, staring into familiar, beautiful eyes. "Well done." He said, kissing my cheek.
I flushed again. He was really here. In front of me. "It worked."
He grinned. "So it seems." He stroked my hair.
I laughed.
"What is so funny?"
"You're just more... affectionate than I expected."
"Oh yes?" He stretched like a cat before lying down beside me. "That's right, I didn't tell you. For that spell to work, the two who perform it must be in love with one another."
My heart skipped. "What?"
"Yes. Thus, affection. There is no use pussyfooting around something that is factual." He laid his head on my chest and I was convinced I was dreaming. I was speechless.
"Are you alright? I barely managed to catch you before you fell. I should have expected such a reaction, humans are quite frail."
"I'm-I'm fine. I looked down where the dagger had been, the wound was gone, leaving only the hole in my shirt as evidence.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"For trusting me. This will be quite the birth-day, as you call it."
I laughed. "I hope so." I finally put my arm around him. His skin was so soft.
