(Aaaravos' POV)
Viren's arm wrapped around me and my cheeks flushed. I had read a great many romance novels in my day but this feeling surpassed my expectations. It was terrifying to be affected by something so greatly. After all, what we were engaging in was G rated and yet, my heart was still pounding. I laughed, thinking myself childish.
Viren smiled and quirked a brow. "What's funny?"
I waved my hand. "Nothing of consequence. Simply happy."
Viren hugged me close. "Me too."
I smiled again. "That's good." I sighed looking out the window. "I'm certain you have a great many tasks to complete. Humans aren't exactly fond of elves so I suppose I'll stay here for the time being. I will find the correct spell for a disguise and trust that when I do, you will fetch me the supplies?"
He smiled. "Yeah, sure." He looked at his hands. "Maybe you'll meet my kids. They'll probably like you more than me."
I laughed. "I highly doubt that. Are you that strict of a father?"
He sighed. "You could say I have very high expectations."
I raised my eyebrows. "Ah, that does seem like you. You are rather uptight."
He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. I grinned wrapping my arms around his back. "Come now, it's cute. It's an observation not an insult."
He sighed and I kissed along his jaw. "I guess you're right."
"Of course I am. Now, I love you but you better get to work before people wonder where you've gone."
"Isn't it your birthday?"
"Yes, we established that."
"I promised to make it memorable, I can't do that if I'm working!"
I smiled, kissing his shoulder. "Worry not, we'll have plenty of time tonight."
He rubbed his temples. "What if I feign illness? You have a spell for that, right?"
I smiled. "You're asking me to use my magic for such a trivial purpose?"
"Come on." He peppered my neck with kisses. "If it works we can just stay together all day."
I rolled my eyes and rolled up my sleeves. "You should be warned that these spells occasionally have unsavory side effects."
"Like what?"
I rolled my neck in a circular motion before facing him and raising an eyebrow. "Actual sickness."
He nodded. "That's only if the spell is faulty though. I'm sure you can cast it without a hitch."
"Very well. You must remain still and silent. I must focus." I said, untangling him from my person and backing up. I took a deep breath before reciting such a spell.
"Excellent, I feel sick. I'll be... right back." He said in a raspy voice. I grinned and nodded. I laid on his bed and stared at the ceiling. This would put back my progress on creating this disguise spell. No matter. This was the most fun I'd had in ages.
I stood up and started exploring his room. There was a lot to be learned about an individual based on their belongings and how they kept them. I smiled at the several bookshelves that line that wall. Though it was miniature compared to my own personal library, I had much more space and time to furnish mine. I picked up a book and began reading it. It was a murder mystery novel with a tension between the investigator and his prey. They appeared to be familiar with one another. I was still reading it when Viren entered the room once again.
"Inspecting my books?"
"I was just curious." I put the book back on the shelf where I had taken it from and turned to Viren. "How are you feeling?"
"The sickness seems to be wearing off but my voice is still a little raspy."
"That's good to hear. Come, lay your head on me for a while." I said cooly, sitting on his bed. My voice showed no sign that my heart was racing or that my stomach was full of fireflies. He smiled, sighing and laid down with his head on my lap. His head was so warm. I ran my fingers through his short, dark hair. It was softer than it looked and my eyes rolled back with a smirk. Fortunately, his eyes were shut so he was unaware of my deeper dive into fascination with him. It all felt like a dream. Something was bound to go wrong. Nothing this good could happen without some kind of consequence. The ground would fall out under my feet any minute and I had to be fully prepared for such an event to occur. However, that spell succeeding hinged on his returning my affections. How humans and elves love could be very different. If any tales I had heard in my youth were to be believed. Human lives are short and their love is just as fickle. Perhaps he was in love with me now but I could not let my guard fall so quickly. I ought to take measured steps as if walking on ice. Slowly revealing small things about myself and seeing how he responded. I must not allow myself to have my vision clouded. I must stay calm and at arms length, even if I do not appear that way.
"Aaravos?" I heard his voice surprise me out of my thoughts. "Are you okay?"
I smiled. "Yes, just thoughtful." I continued to pet his hair.
