To say the last week had been crappy for Maya was an understatement. There was COVID, of course, and that alone made every day crappy but on top of all that, two members of her team almost drowned, the Battalion Chief had actually died, PD wasn't backing off with their micro aggressions towards 19, Warren had informed her of his possible diagnosis and that he needed surgery and they had lost a family on a house fire. Oh, and let's not forget her girlfriend had to leave the country for who knew how long because their fucking government couldn't be bothered with keeping important offices like immigration open.

Yep, crappy didn't do justice to how she was actually feeling.

The fire captain had taken two days off in a row to spend every minute she could with Carina before the Italian had to get on that plane and they had indeed used every minute to commit each other's bodies to memory.

The pair had barely gotten out of bed the day before, only getting up to eat when the small beast in Maya's belly started to growl and they had spent the night the same way, stopping only when their muscles couldn't move anymore, throats were sore and wrists were hurting. The blonde was sure she could enumerate and locate every freckle in the doctor's soft skin even with her eyes closed.

It had been a sad and emotional night but also was the best sex they had ever had. One could even say they made love. Not that Maya would (she did).

After another passionate session of morning sex, the last one they'd have in a long time, both women reluctantly got up, showered —together, of course, they weren't going to miss any opportunity to have intimacy during their last hours in the same city—, got dressed and were now in the kitchen, the Italian gathering the ingredients for the meal she was going to prepare and the firefighter looking pretty in that slightly oversized hoodie while making sure she was not on the way.

"I'm gonna miss your cooking." Maya sighed as she played with the white kitchen rag in her hands.

Carina chuckled, pulling something out if a Ziploc bag and setting it on the chopping board. "Of course you will. Before I moved in you only survived on those gross looking protein shakes, take out and whatever the guys cooked at the station. And not even that when it's Jack's turn to cook." She quickly added the last bit with a tiny smirk. She liked to mock Jack, even when he was not around

The blonde laughed and pointed at Carina with an accusatory finger. "That is not true, I can kind of cook!"

The doctor stopped chopping and raised her gaze to meet Maya's, arching a brow. "Seriously? You call that kale lasagna monstrosity you made last time 'cooking'?"

Maya looked away from Carina's face and chewed on her bottom lip as memories of that moment invaded her mind. "Come on, it was not that bad. You're just way too protective of the Italian Cuisine and don't like it when people try something a little different."

Carina resumed her task as she shook her head. "It's a crime to try to change something that is already perfect. Gli americani amano rovinare la cucina degli altri perché non ne hanno una loro. Just ask the French."

"I have no idea what you just said but I suspect it has something to do with Americans doing things wrong. Which I cannot deny." Maya playfully said, making the brunette laugh, a wide smile plastered on her face.

The laugh naturally died down, the couple silently enjoying the domestic moment, stealing glances here and there as Carina moved around the kitchen.

The sound of a ringing phone interrupted the quiet moment.

"That's mine." Carina commented as she grabbed the kitchen rag from Maya's hands to clean her own. "Don't touch anything, bambina, or I'm afraid our last meal together will end up in disaster." The doctor teased her girlfriend before cupping her face between both hands and pressing a quick kiss on her lips.
