"Great job, everyone!" Maya said as she stepped down of the cabin of ladder 19 and closed the door. "There were no injured, minimum structural loss and you all are in one piece. Go hit the showers." She continued as she stripped herself off her turnouts, hanging them on the truck.
Miller, who was sliding the suspender off his shoulders, scrunched up his nose. "What about the tools and hoses?"
"What about them?" The blonde asked, already starting to walk away.
"Who's gonna clean them?" Dean elaborated.
Maya shrugged. "They're gonna get filthy in the next call, it can be done later. Get some rest before we are needed again, that's an order." She said, her tone light, and disappeared behind the other engine to go to the reception area and then into her office.
The rest of 19, still in the barn, stared at each other, a little confused about their captain's attitude.
"What's going on with Bishop? She's been in a constant good mood for weeks now." Travis asked, hands on his hips.
"Yeah, right? It's almost creepy, like one of those psycho killers who smile all the time." Vic added with a small chuckle, crossing her arms over her chest.
Andy snorted and rolled her eyes, stepping up to end that conversation. "Guys, who cares why? Let's enjoy it and let Maya be happy. Happy boss, happy life, right?"
Everyone started talking at the same time but the latina stopped them.
"Ah, ah, ah, no more talking." The brunette said before following the path Maya had walked a few moments before.
The lieutenant knocked on the captain's door and waited for permission to go in before entering the office, finding Maya already typing the incident report of their latest call.
"Hey, Maya." Andy started, closing the door behind her.
The blonde looked up from her computer, offering her friend a smile before her eyes drifted down again. "What's up, Andy?"
The latina sat down in one of the chairs in front of Maya's desk and leaned back a little. "That's what I was going to ask you, actually."
The blonde looked away from her laptop again, an eyebrow arched. "What's up with what?" She closed the lid of the device and laced her fingers over it.
"Nothing, is just that..." Andy trailed off, looking at her nails. "You've been... happy, lately."
The captain leaned back. "And that's bad because...?"
The brunette waved her hands in front of herself. "No, no, it's not bad it's just that everyone has noticed your good mood and, as your best friend, I wanted to know what's causing it."
Maya looked to the side as a small smile curved her lips. "Life's good, what can I say?"
Andy narrowed her eyes at the captain, trying to figure her out. "Is it something with Carina?" Then, her eyes widened. "Oh, God, don't tell me you started trying for a baby, am I gonna be an aunt?" She asked excitedly, leaning on the desk to take Maya's hands on her own.
"No, no, that's not it." The blonde said immediately, shaking her head. "Everything with Carina is great but we're not planning to have a baby soon, she's actually starting some new research so she won't have much time for anything else."
"Oh." The lieutenant's happy face dulled as she leaned back on her chair. "Is it another study on female orgasms?" She teased with a smile as she waggled her eyebrows up and down.
