King's POV
"Alright, we ready?"
The wolves surrounding me nodded once in affirmation and I nodded back. I turned around, spotting Nick waiting anxiously by the front door. I excused myself from the group, telling them to say their goodbyes and load up the trucks. I jogged over to my mate and his eyes lit up as he scrambled over to me. He didn't hesitate as he wrapped his arms around my back and hugged me. I closed my eyes, breathing in his scent and enjoying the feeling of his arms around me.
After last time, we both promised never to say good bye angry. Life was unpredictable.
With that thought, I squeezed Nick tightly for a second before reluctantly letting him go. Looking into his eyes, I saw the tears collecting in the corners, but my little mate held strong and didn't let them fall.
He grabbed my hands and clutched them, his eyes searching mine for something. I wasn't sure what. Nick's gaze flickered from my lips back to my eyes and I leaned down in invitation. Once I was close enough, Nick wrapped his arms around my neck and yanked me down the rest of the way so our lips could meet.
The kiss was short and sweet, or rather salty from Nick's tears. He pulled away and rested his forehead against mine, his eyes still closed.
"Be safe, okay? I love you."
I nodded. "I will. I love you too."
After a few more wistful seconds, Nick released me. His hands lingered on my body, trailing down my arms softly until he pulled them away.
I caught his teary gaze once more and he nodded at me, a trembling smile plastered on his lips.
"Come back to me."
All I could do was nod. With one last peck to my mates forehead, I straightened up and turned back to my pack. The warriors were waiting patiently for my order, not daring to interrupt me while I was saying goodbye to my mate.
Nick placed a hand on my arm and I felt his emotions bleeding into our bond. He was nervous, anxious, scared, but the most prevalent emotion was his assurance. Assurance that everything would get well. That I would come back to him.
That propelled me forward with a newfound courage. I looked at my warriors, the proud men and women and non-gender conforming folks. These people were my family. We would go to war for each other.
"Warriors!" I boomed out, and all of their postures straightened as they waited for me to give my command. I made eye contact with my head enforcer and she winked before averting her gaze.
I smirked.
"Move out!"

Nick's POV
I weaved my way through the murmuring pack members, my focus completely on getting to the kitchen as fast as possible.
Izabel was currently in her third hour of labor, and had requested a snack. I was apparently the errand boy.
I didn't mind it though. It gave me something to do besides sit around worrying about King.
They had left about an hour ago, and we were all anxiously awaiting news. I wasn't exactly sure how this worked; would they call with an update or just show back up randomly?
Werewolves.
I could still feel King, his emotions. He seemed to be doing fine, so I wasn't too worried.
Back to the task at hand.
I grabbed a granola bar and an apple from the kitchen and jogged back to the delivery room where Izabel was. I wasn't really allowed in there, so I knocked softly on the door and waited patiently for someone to open it.
