Lukas' POV

Something's...weird.

This boy, Nick, is strange.

I think I found the alpha's mate.

Said alpha isn't even at school today, he thought it'd be better to mope at home.

His 18th birthday was two months ago, along with the coronation that deemed him alpha of the Red Moon Pack.

He hadn't found his mate, still hasn't, so he decided it would be better to "stay home and wallow in my self-pity," his words not mine. I wanted to be more firm with him, but I understood the delicacy of his situation.

This was harder on the alpha than any of us could imagine. He needed his mate.

But as I'm sitting in History next to Nick, his smell burning my nostrils, I think that this is King's mate.

I had heard about this, briefly, about being able to scent the mate of an alpha. I thought it was bull, but I'm thinking maybe I was wrong.

It isn't just a smell though, it's a feeling. I can't describe it, but I just know that this is the alpha's mate. I'm contemplating on whether I should mind link King and tell him when the teacher coughs loudly.

"Lukas, are you paying attention?" He asks mildly irritated.

My eye twitched and I had to push down Kai, my wolf before he did something stupid. I hated being called out in class.

I shuffled awkwardly in my seat, ignoring the stares being sent my way. The other weres didn't even bother to glance at me, they knew how irritable I got.

"No, I wasn't, actually," I replied cockily, flashing a grin at the stuttering teacher while the students in the class snickered.

My eyes shifted back to Nick, who was too absorbed in his own thoughts to probably have even heard all of that.

I mind-linked Izabel, who was my own mate, as I had been doing throughout the class. She had figured out that Nick was King's mate too, but this was such a weird situation.

Nick was obviously human and the existence of werewolves was not common knowledge.

We couldn't assume that Nick knew about us so we had to tread lightly.

Izabel and I decided to tell King when we got home and let him take it from there.

Something about Nick was...off. Not necessarily in a bad way, but still.

Kai was equally confused, but there wasn't anything we could do about it for now. Before I knew it, the bell had rung, signaling the end of class. I winced, as I did every time those loud ass bells went off.

We only had five classes in a day, with lunch being after the first two, so it was lunchtime.

I turned to Nick, intending to remind him about lunch with me, but as I turned I saw him reaching into his bag to pull out car keys. His eyes met mine and I cocked a brow in confusion. He cursed under his breath and gave me a sheepish smile.

"Sorry, I forgot that I said I'd eat lunch with you. I actually have to go run some errands since my free period is after lunch. Do you mind?" He asked softly.
