Originally he was fine. At least, that's what everyone thought when they saw his bright eyes, saw his smile, saw how he laughed with everyone. He was fine, wasn't he? It's not like there's something extremely wrong with him, was there? Surely not, the bright-eyed boy was completely fine. That was until it all came to a stop.

The first thing people noticed about the usually bright-eyed boy was his laugh, or lack of his laugh. Nine weeks; that's how long it had been since the boy had laughed like he did before. The second thing people noticed about him was his smile, or lack of his smile. Six weeks; that's how long it had been since the boy had smiled at all. The third and final thing that people noticed about this boy was his bright eyes, or lack of the brightness in his eyes. Three weeks; that's how long it had been since the boy's eyes were bright like they once were.

Many people were concerned with the changes in the kid's attitude. He wasn't happy, but he wasn't angry either nor was he sad. He was just... numb. That's how he had been for the past ten weeks, the past two and a-bit months. Out of everyone, the person who was most concerned with the sudden change was the boy's older brother, Zeke Jaeger.

Zeke had seen how different his little brother had become in such a short amount of time; he no longer smiled, no longer laughed, no longer seemed to care about himself or the people he surrounded himself with. Or used to surround himself with. Though people were around him, the older Jaeger boy could tell that he felt so alone which worried him. He had so many people around him, yet he still felt lonely. Why? Why did his little brother feel so lonely? It didn't make sense to him.

Another week passed, and the boy's condition didn't seem to be improving. In fact, it seemed to be worsening. Someone had mentioned how they saw scabs and scars on the boy's wrists and arms, commenting on how it looked self-inflicted. That caused panic amongst the group of nine. Was their friend self-harming? Was he pushed to that point? And if so, by who? Them? Oh, how they hoped it wasn't them.

Another week flew by. The group of nine's concerns never lessened; in fact, it merely grew when they found out the boy wasn't eating properly. He would say that he had 'already ate', but they knew better. He would say that he had 'already had something to drink', but they knew better.

Another week went by. The boy was skinny, too skinny in their opinion. He would say 'I'm fine', but they knew better. He would say 'I just ate', but they knew better. He would say 'I slept fine', but they knew better. They knew better than he thought they did; they knew he wasn't fine, knew he wasn't eating, knew he wasn't sleeping. The group of nine knew he needed help, but they also knew the boy didn't want it and would frequently deny any help they offered to him. They didn't know how to help him. Well, Zeke did.

Speaking of Zeke, a lot of people were commenting on how he seemed so distracted through out the day. In truth, he had a gut feeling that something was wrong, something just didn't sit right with him that day and it had to do with his little brother.

By the time dinner rolled around, the feeling in his gut got worse. It immediately worsened when the by didn't turn up to dinner that evening. Panicking, the blonde Jaeger boy raced to the rooftop where his gut was telling him to go. There, he saw him; the boy he had seen grow up stood by the edge of the roof. "Eren!" He screamed, watching as the boy fell backwards onto the flat surface, looking up at the man who rushed to his side.

"Z-Zeke?" the broken boy stuttered, looking up at his older brother with tears in his dull, empty eyes. Zeke nodded, collapsing to his knees, and hugging him close, afraid that if he were to let go the boy would disappear. "Why? Why did you save me?"

Zeke pulled away slightly to look into those Caribbean blue eyes and merely said, "Because I'm the big brother. I'm sorry I wasn't better at it until now." With that, the younger Jaeger boy broke down into sobs, clutching onto the older Jaeger boy's shirt as he, too, let a few tears spill.
