It was 3 in the morning when little Alice woke, quiet little cries alerting both Daniel and I. He was first up and over to her taking her down to the kitchen while I checked in on her big brother who was in the room across the landing from us. He was sound asleep so I went down to the kitchen to help with Alice bottle. Stepping into the kitchen I was greeted by Daniel feeding Alice. He was humming something quietly to her as I came up beside him. I shook my head walking out into the living room where I could see the driveway.
I couldn't think of having this but with our own just yet. There was too much going on right now. My responsibilities wouldn't allow time to be a mother or....no I wouldn't do this. I had to focus on the moment at hand and anyway we'd have plenty of time for that, right?
"Hey are you okay?" Daniel came up behind me with no Alice. "Don't worry she's back asleep," he followed my gaze outside. Frowning he asked again "are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine" I faked a smile.
Slipping his hand into mine he turned me ever so gently to face him. "Come on what's on your mind?" He asked softly.
I sighed hanging my head then looking back up at him, "just work and everything that's happened over the last few weeks."
He cupped my cheek "things will get better."
"I know it's just, I feel useless, broken, like I'm not good enough to deal with any of this. Like seeing you with Alice makes me want to jump right back into a relationship but then my heart aches, I start to overthink and then I tell myself I can't." I seemed to just be rambling "and then with work I know I'm in danger because these people who are attacking supernatural beings like us, they will want to finish what they started all those years ago. Which in turn puts our entire pack in danger and the UK will loose the support of the EU if people vote leave and humans don't even know that.."
"Hey it's okay, you're shaking" he whispered taking both my hands now and uncurling my fists. "Look through everything you've got me, and that's wether you want to be together or not." He sat me down on the sofa as I wiped my eyes aggressively. "If anyone tries to harm you in anyway I'll be there to stop them, okay." Pulling me into a hug I relaxed into his body, "I know that doesn't mean you won't worry but I hope it gives you some comfort that you are not alone."
