She felt empty.

A literal piece of her was missing, robbed straight off of her person.

The comfort it originally provided was gone and a feeling of emptiness lingered that she couldn't quite shake off.

It had been years since Ina's pocket were this light. She had failed in keeping the memento by her side- the very purpose of the gift mind you! The trinket served as a tangible promise from her brothers that they would all meet again.

Each boy made a promise to set sail and make a name for themselves. Ina was the last to leave their hometown but Luffy's journey had only begun when she reunited with him.

She had no epic goals like the trio of brothers did, she just wanted to escape the boring island they grew up on. There was so much to see in the world and Ina wanted to explore it.

Traveling with Luffy dulled the ache the trinket in her pocket created, but it longed to be complete.

Perhaps it never would- for one thirds of the key had already been lost. Undeterred, Ina wanted to unlock the trinket's full potential.

"A great treasure is hidden inside!" Sabo had teased Ina long ago.

She spent hours clawing at the metal, leaving her hands sore and bloody, trying to pry apart the last layer all to no success.

The implied treasure trapped inside ensured that Ina kept the hunk of metal on her person at all times.

In this Great Pirate Era treasure was best kept a secret unless, well the thing got looted right off of her that's why! It pained Ina to know her precious memento was in the hands of that red headed brute but she had no means of retrieving it back.

She was weak. It was a simple fact she had come to accept.

While Ace, Sabo, and Luffy ran around like the bad ruffians they were, Ina stayed behind with Makino to help operate Partys Bar.

Many of the villagers wondered how and why Ina befriended the ragtag trio but she saw potential in each brother.

Sabo had overcome his noble upbringing and saw the harsh reality of the world. He wanted to sail in peace with no prejudice and find the good in others.

Ace was born with the sins of his father and sought to prove the world wrong about his surname. Running was all he had ever known.

Luffy though, was a unique case.

Neither a bad or good childhood shaped the soon to be rubber boy. Luffy only cared about life's adventure and completing his wish.

How hard could becoming the King of the Pirates be? Luffy wanted to personally find out.

When Ina first met the boys by a chance encounter she instantly fell in love with the ambitious pirates, ASL, as they dubbed themselves.

She wasn't a fangirl- merely a supporter that provided much needed encouragement to their goals.

Ina didn't take partake in the Sake ritual that bound the three but it was unanimous, she was a sworn sister.

She received protection around town in exchange for stories of their adventures in the woods. Their grand promises and zealous dreams spoken into existence filled Ina's head with hope.

There was something more to the world than just being a bartender.

Each time ASL fought off a guard from Goa and escaped, Ina was the first to hear about it.

When Sabo found a priceless locket thrown out in the endless trash piles of the Gray Terminal, it was Ace's idea to gift it to their sister. Luffy complained that it was far too plain for Ina and all of the three boys agreed to use a little of the saved money they stashed in the trees to modify the locket for their sister.
