Kageyama arrived back in Miyagi at around eight pm Friday night. He dropped a duffle bag in his mom's apartment, thankful that he didn't have time to call the charity to come take all the furniture away. Or, could it be that he put that off on purpose, just in case he ended up here again? He stopped for a split second and considered the possibility. Shit. Had he done that?

He pushed the disconcerting thought aside, eager to get upstairs and see his Tangerine. Four days had felt way, WAY too long. Kageyama bounded up the stairs and eagerly knocked on the door. Hinata answered not long after and they stared at each other awkwardly for several seconds, not knowing if they should kiss or hug or what.

"Hi."

"Hey. Um, Natsu's here," Hinata said, almost as a warning, as he opened the door and invited Kageyama in. Natsu was on the sofa texting on her phone.

"Natsu, this is my friend Kageyama I was telling you about," She looked up then and scrutinized the tall boy, who felt like he was on trial. Kags had never been good with kids.

"Hi, Natsu. Nice to meet you."

"Hi," she said simply after she had finished her inspection. Then she went back to her phone, and that was that.

They hung out in the living room for a couple of hours playing video games and eating snacks. Around ten, Hinata sent Natsu to bed. She, of course, complained that she was old enough to stay up later on a Friday night, but finally relented saying she'd go to her room but she wouldn't promise to fall asleep. Hinata rolled his eyes and agreed.

When Natsu was in her room, the two boys snuggled on the sofa and began to talk. Kageyama started by asking about how the meeting with the lawyer went, and Hinata described everything in detail. When he finished, he brought up what was bothering him.

"Kageyama, I appreciate you wanting to help by paying the lawyer fees but I can't let you do that."

"Why not?" Kageyama was truly perplexed.

"Because. Because ... we are not at that stage of a relationship. Shit, are we even in a relationship? I don't even know because we haven't even talked about it. So you can't go doing something expensive like that."

Kageyama replied, still unsure exactly what Hinata was getting at. "Hinata, I have the money and I'm happy to do it. Why can't I help?"

Hinata turned to face the dark-haired male and tried to get his words right. "OK, so what if you paid all this money and then in a week or two, I didn't want to have sex with you anymore?"

Kageyama said with a confident smirk, "I don't really think that's going to happen, do you?" Hinata laughed a little but was trying to be serious.

"No. I mean it. What if I'm like, I don't want this anymore but he paid all this money for the lawyer so I guess I'll just keep doing this. It's almost like you're paying me to have sex."

"What??" Kageyama was shaking his head, "No. No, not at all. What?"
"I know you don't mean it that way, but that's how it feels. So I can't accept it, okay? Do you understand?"

Kageyama's face was scrunched up like he was trying to work out a difficult math problem. "I ... guess I get it?"

"Do you really? I need you to understand. It's important." Kageyama thought for another minute how it would feel if you were indebted to someone you didn't want to see anymore. He thought he understood, but he still wasn't happy.

"I do. I understand. But I want to help you. I wouldn't expect anything in return."

"I know. But I would still feel that way. So I can't accept it. I will work out a payment plan with Yoshida and it will be okay." Hinata looked briefly at Kags but turned away again. He wanted to believe everything would be alright in the long run but didn't quite believe his own words. But hey, this was one of his specialties, right? Pretending to be sure about something he really wasn't certain of at all?
