I should have known better

I should have known better than to fall for this trap again. It's as if I keep rereading the same book and expect a different ending.

You'd think by now I'd notice the signs of a love that's destined to die.

The battle scars left on my heart from the previous war haven't fully healed, and yet here I am at the frontline again.

Unbeknownst to myself, I fell for you under the pretense of a friendship. The truth didn't sink in until you broke the news that you're now in a relationship.

But it's my own fault. I shouldn't have done it.

How can I expect you to love me if you don't know what that is?

How can I expect you to kiss me if you're dreaming of her lips?

You tell me you love me, but not in the same way.

I'm not normally a quitter, but I must quit on this.

Going back to a world without you. It's what's best for me.
