Chapter 11

*Anari's POV*

<Next Day>

I woke up to Alexis screaming. I jumped up and ran to her room.

"What's wrong?" I asked walking in her room.

"I thought you left me like my other mommy and daddy did"

"No. Sweetie.. I would never do that. I'm here to stay." I said reassuringly.

"Ok" she said getting out of her bed. "I gotta potty"

I chuckled and watched her walk to the bathroom down the hall. I walked back to my room and called Shawn.

He picked up after two rings.

*phone convo*

Shawn: "goodmorning babe. I'm on my way" he sounded just like he woke up.

Me: "morning to you too. Alexis just woke up screaming, so I'm up" he chuckled.

Shawn: "Can you make me some coffee please?"

Me: "sure"

Shawn: "thank you. Be there in 15. Love you"

Me: "love you too"

*End of Phone convo*

I walked in Alexis Room and picked out her outfit. I noticed it was taking her a long time in the bathroom, so I went to go check on her.

When I got to the bathroom, I saw Alexis curled up in the tub sleeping. I giggled and took a picture of her. I sent it to Darrel with a caption,

'Your daughter is sleeping just like you'.

I left her in the tub and went downstairs. I went to the coffee maker and began to make Shawn's coffee just how he likes it. My phone began to ring on the counter. I answered it without looking at who it was.

*phone convo*

Me: "Hello"

????: "hey baby"

Me: " mommy"

Mom: "I miss you guys so much"

Me: "I miss you and dad so much"

Mom: "Umm sweetie.." I heard the sadness in her voice

Me: "what is it mom?"

Mom: "your father died two weeks ago"

I was speechless. Although my parents were not in my life, I loved them with all my heart. I was about to say something when I was met with the dial tone of the phone. My eyes began to water. I could not believe what I just heard.

My mom and dad were always gone, but they still made a way out of no way.. well.. until now. I let a couple tears fall down my face until I realized what I was doing. I have to be strong for this little girl.

I wiped my face and went back upstairs to pick her outfit of the day out. I went to the bathroom and picked her up out the tub. I went to her room and sat on the floor.

Once I was finished getting her dressed I heard the door bell ring. By then, Alexis was awake.

"Finally up huh?" I said standing up.

Alexis put her arms up wanting to carry her. I picked her up and walked downstairs. She's getting too big for this. I opened the door.

"Goodmorning beautiful" Shawn said as he kissed my forehead.

"Goodmorning handsome. You smell good" he smirked.

"You know I try"

"You so dang cocky. Here take lexis" she started to cry.

"I wanna stay with you mommy" I sighed and put her down.

"You going to daddy house."

"I want you to take me." I watched how Shawn looked a little hurt, but he hid it when he saw me looking.

She cried even more. I went to the kitchen and put her inhaler, pop tart, and skittles in Alexis's Doc Mcstuffins purse. I grabbed my keys and walked to the front door.

"Shawn. I'll take her. I'll just be late to work."

"Aight.. Love you" he turned and walked away.

"Love you too" I said before he got in his car.

"I thought we talked about this. You are 4 years old. You gotta act like it Lex." I said, grabbing Alexis hand. We walked to my car and I buckled her in. I drove off to Darrell house.

*Shawn's POV*

I was a little hurt by Alexis not wanting to go with me. I have been nothing but nice to this little girl and she hates me for some odd reason. I literally buy her toys, stuffed animals, food, cupcakes, brownies, candy.. everything hell and she still treats me like trash. I don't even know what it is.

I feel like because her parents left her and Anari and Darrell stepped up to the plate to take care of her, she thinks they have to be together. I understand why, but that's just not the case. I don't wanna blame a little girl for anything, but... I don't want her to ruin anything that we got going on.

I feel like when it comes to me or Alexis, Anari will choose Alexis any day. I wish it wasn't like that, but it is what it is and it will always be what it's gonna be.
