I stood in the rain for only a couple of minutes before getting back in the car to see how hard my sister and David were breathing. Both of them lost a lot of blood. Selene from the machine and David from feeding my sister. "I'm very sorry that you lost your father," Selene told him. "He put up a valiant fight."
I looked at David with sorrow in my eyes and placed my hand on his cheek. I am truly terrified of what will happen when we reach Var Dohr. When he finds out that I knew since the very beginning who his mother was. He leaned into my hand and looked directly into my eyes. "I wish I could have stopped her in time. I know your father loved you more than anything."
"It's strange to lose someone you feel like you never really knew." He tells us as he looks into the rain. "I feel the same way about my mother, but I have almost no memory of her." My heart was gripped by guilt.
"And, I of Eve," Selene tells him. I stared at her in confusion. "I didn't want her. I didn't know her and now I've lost her."
"Why do you insist on saying you've lost her?" David asked her.
I gave my sister a sad look as she began to explain. "She made me promise I would never look for her, that I would never consider myself having a daughter." I was shocked at how broken my sister was. How vulnerable she was in front of David. "And she was right. Nothing good has ever come to anyone I love."
I don't know what came over me as I raised my hand to slap her face. She and David looked at me in shock. "In case you have forgotten, you are family. The only other living member of our birth family. You and David are all I have. I lost my mistress, our family, and my brother but from all of that heartache I gained a niece and a lover and I still have my sister." I snapped at her in a dangerously calm voice before sighing and taking her hand. "I love you, Selene."
She bowed her head at me. "Well, then you two really are in trouble."
I sighed and sat back in my seat as David started the car. "You need to rest," He tells her before driving off.
We drove until we were less than a mile away from the station. We abandoned the car and caught a train north. I was nervous, to say the least as we rode the train. I have never been to Var Dohr but from what Amelia told me, it is a peaceful and strong coven. They do not wish for war or look for it but they do prepare for it. I looked out into the snow wondering if David will hate me once he finds out I have always known who he was from the moment he was conceived. "Var Dohr is just beyond that ridge," Selene tells him while looking out into the snow-covered mountains. We left our seats as well as the train. Luckily there was a horse stable nearby. We all took a horse and rode them across the snowy plains. Once we reached the base of the ridge, we stopped and allowed the horses to go back to where they came.
We crossed a frozen river as the wind howled, we walked all the way to a cliffside that held an ancient castle on top. I took out my dagger and Selene and David each took out their own blade. I wish I had the time to taste the blood Varga had on my blade but we needed to get to that coven. I jumped up high and stabbed my dagger into the ice, Selene followed as did David until we reached the top. We found the door to enter the fortress quickly and walked in. When the doors opened, it revealed no signs of life other than lit torches. "Where is everyone?" David asked us.
"Watching" Selene and I said simply. I knew that someone would reveal themselves soon enough and kept my eyes ahead of me while David and Selene spun around to see if one would come out. While they look, a blood vampire wearing white reveals herself. I smiled softly at her. "We've come seeking sanctuary. We are not here to fight, I promise you" I tell her kindly.
We watched as her body transformed into mist and reformed back in a different spot. "Then you've come to the right place." She tells us. I smiled at her before looking back at my companions.
