We were about 2 miles away from the safe house when the wind started to pick up, when it did I started to have an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach but kept walking. As we continued to walk away from where we came from I started to suddenly hear heavy wings flapping against the wind. 'Oh please let it be a really big bird' I thought to myself as Selene and I looked up at the sky to see a humanoid shape with a pair of giant bat wings on its back. 'Shit' I thought as both Selene and I ran back to where we left Michael.
*Time Skip*
When we got to the safe house, I saw it was completely dark. 'Double Shit. Michael please just be resting' I thought to myself as we ran down the stairs. When we got all the way into the safe house, Selene turned around and looked at me with worry in her eyes.
"Damn it. Michael." I said out loud when I found the unused blood bag. We looked around the room when we suddenly heard gunshots come just outside of the safe house.
"Shit!" Selene cussed before taking her guns out of her holster and I grabbed my daggers before running up the stairs. We ran out of the safe house and in the direction where the gunshots in hopes that Michael hasn't gotten himself or someone else killed. Once we got outside, I saw that the sun was about to come up but I didn't care. Michael was my friend, I wasn't going to abandon him and neither was Selene. We both took off in a run, heading towards the sound of the gunshots, which led us to a cliff. But Neither of us even slowed down, instead, we jumped down the cliff landing in front of the men aiming their guns at Michael. When the soldier saw me at the end of his gun, his face started to show fear. I just smirked before grabbing his hand and taking his gun. When I grabbed his gun, I pistol-whipped him before heading to the next one. Once Selene and I knocked out two of the soldiers the rest started to shoot at us. I dodge the first spray of bullets by ducking and looking at Selene. She signaled me to go in the opposite direction and I did. I landed behind one of the men and jumped onto his shoulder and spinning my upper body around him to throw his balance off. When my body faced his face, I landed a solid punch across his face, effectively knocking him out. As I was getting off of him, I heard a shotgun go off and my head jerked towards my sister who just got shot by one. She yanked the gun out of the man's hands and spun it to where the butt of the gun was facing him before she slammed it into his chest, causing him to fly backward into a bolder. When she saw that he along with the rest were taken care of, she jumped towards where we could hear Michael. I followed her to find him crawling even though he could barely breathe. 'Are you fucking kidding me?!' Selene grabbed Michael and put him on his back before biting her wrist and placing it in front of his mouth.
"Here. Take it" Selene told him as she offered her blood to him, but he was being reluctant about it by turning his head and telling her no. She decided not to beat around the bush and flat out tell him "Michael you'll die." He stopped acting like a child and accepted the blood. Of course, he still didn't care for it and cursed under his breath.
As Selene was helping Michael stand up I started to sense a strong presence near us. "We need to go now." Selene grabbed Michael and started to he;p him walk about 5, maybe 10 feet from where he was when we heard the swooshing of wings behind us. We turned to see Marcus in his bat-like form flying towards us. Selene got herself ready for a fight while Michael went and hid behind a boulder, I the other hand just stood my ground as I watched the man she once saw as family land in front of us. I could feel my sister's fear and I stood next to her to give her some comfort as he began to walk towards us.
"Marcus," Selene said clearly shaken by the sheer power that he gave off.
"I know what you've done, Selene." He said getting closer to her not even acknowledging my presence. I got in front of her as Selene began to back up. "Ah, Little Iris. I also know what you've been through." He said turning his eyes towards me.
"Viktor deserved his fate, Marcus. You know that." I told the elder. "Kraven was no better" I walked towards him while Selene and Michael backed away.
"Kraven has already reaped the rewards of his own misdeeds" Marcus walked towards me but kept an eye on the couple behind us. " And Viktor, Viktor deserved his fate many times over." He reached out his hand and patted my hair. "You know that better than most my child." I could feel Selene and Michael's eyes on us. " A terrible business... the slaying of your family. " I closed my eyes at the memory of mine and Selene's family. I heard Selene let out a shaken breath at the mention as well. "Yet so much effort was spent to conceal this matter from me." I heard rocks shift under Michael as he got up. Marcus's eyes shifted from me and moved to my hybrid friend before looking towards Selene. "What do you suppose Viktor had to hide?" I turned to look at Selene and saw how shaken she was even though she tried to seem like she wasn't frightened. "Or perhaps it is you, Selene as one of the last of your wretched family, who has something to hide." Suddenly Marcus opened his mouth wide and lunged at my sister.
"MARCUS!" I yelled as I pulled out my gun to shoot him as he pinned my sister to the side of the rocky mountain. As I raised my gun Michael had already begun shooting the elder. Marcus let my sister go and was forced away from her body. When Michael had him pinned to the rocks, Selene turned to us and said one simple word.
"GO!" we all ran towards the road where we saw a flatbed truck heading towards us. Michael started to shift and stopped the truck by getting in front of it and used his bare strength. Selene opened the driver's door scaring the poor human man. "What the fuck?" the man asked when he saw my sister he was very confused and of course it didn't help that Michael jumped onto the hood of the truck growling into the windshield
"Mind if I drive?" she asked the frightened driver while she made her eyes glow a bright blue. The man climbed out of the truck through the passenger door where I was leaning against the truck. When he saw me he fell onto the ground. I just made my eyes glow with a small smirk on my face as I watch the man ran like his tail was on fire. I climbed into the truck and Michael got onto the bed of the truck. When Selene saw that we were all in she shifted into gear and slammed on the gas. As we sped away I couldn't help but think that things are going to get way worse before they even get a chance to get better.
