Short Poems (Untitled)
why do Universities have
to be beautiful
be sanctuaries, oases,
places of
special refuge, towers
and spires forever
looking down

The camera
circled
gobbling her beauty
hovered
like a predatory bird
locking her shape
in a prison of light
for our delight

coax me; coach me
I need to know the Zen of
how to rake your garden

I went back to the
Zen tarot and
got the card for

in dodging his stick.

Can a grasshopper jump
from leaf to leaf, line

as freely, easily as
you can, reader,
in your
stillness so deceptive?

With handheld camera
you film me as I wander off
the beaten track
say goodbye to the city, all
concrete and ash
wait
for dissolving rain.

The storm rages around the Zen garden
sweeps past as intense as
Holy Fire
and yet not a grain of sand touched

a cow in
a quantum field
is probably eating

other side of the Universe
where these words

God, finding
our physics too simplistic
conjured up the word "quantum"
out of nothing. Obviously.
