Chapter 19: Vampire Visits& Raging Rogues

Jason's POV 

I smelled blood and it was coming closer and closer to the packhouse. It smelt like rogue blood. I growled at the thought of any rogue trespassing on my land. I ran outside and tracked the scent. I saw a bloodied person walking towards the packhouse. "Gotcha." I shifted and pounced on the boy. When I hit him he went down like a sack of potatoes. 

"Jason, It's me." he held his hand up in defense. I stopped my attack and took a better look. It was Murphy. 

"What the hell Murphy! Why are you covered in rogues blood?" I looked him over. He was wearing a fresh pair of clothes with the faint smell of Taylor. "Where's Taylor?" I asked him. 

"She's fine. She ordered me to come back here. I don't know why I did what she told me, but I did. 

"Go take a shower and clean yourself up." He bowed and went into the house. What the hell happened out there?

I walked back into the packhouse and sat on a sofa. Who knew teaching people was so hard? I groaned and took a deep breath. "Tough day?" my dad asked. He walked into the room and sat down next to me. "Yeah, tough day." I sat up a little more and faced him. "I think your training is working. A lot of our warriors are complaining about how sore they are. Hopefully, that's a good sign." 

I smiled knowing the training was working. "We just need a couple of weeks and we'll be fine. Together the rogues, hunters, vampires, and other dangers to us will be brought down swiftly. They did well today."

My dad nodded his head. "Jason, I have to tell you something." I nodded my head for him to go on. "A vampire was seen in Taylor's room again but it was cloaked with magic as soon as the alert went out. We still don't know what they want." 

How could Taylor's pack let a vampire into their territory so easily? "It happened while you were in the fields, so if there would have been an attack, we would have been in a lot of trouble." I nodded. What do they want with Taylor's pack? 

"All that we know, is that this time they took one item. Her dad didn't tell me what the stolen item was. That's where you're going to come in. Tomorrow, during training you need to keep your ears open for any information on the vampire." He stood up and paced around the room.

"Why was Murphy covered in rogue blood when he entered the house?" I ran my hands through my hair. "I don't know dad. I wasn't there. Taylor was there and Murphy was attacked by the rogue." Dad's eyes bulged out. "I didn't know Murphy was ready to take on a rogue. Anyways, it looked more like Murphy attacked the rogue." I pushed myself off the couch. "We won't know anything because the only other person there was Taylor."

We walked together through the halls of the house. "So how are you and Taylor getting along?" I rolled my eyes. "We're fine. Just friends." Ha, friends. Can you get a look at this guy? Thinking a girl actually likes him. Gabe. I'm kidding..... Mostly. 

"Jason, you're going to be engaged in less than 3 weeks. You two need to be more than friends to make it look real." I heard someone walk into the room. Jess appeared at the doorway. "Hey sweety." My dad went over to hug her. She held her hand up to stop him from coming closer. Her face was set in stone and I knew the look on her face. She had her rant face on. Oh, f*ck. I darted out of the room just as her mouth opened.

I ran up to my room and laid on my bed, staring at the ceiling. Your dad is right. About what? About you getting closer with Taylor. She's your mate. Do you know how mad she's going to be when she turns 18 and figures out that you had already known that she was your mate? I thought about how cute her face would be all scrunched up as she yelled at me about being my mate. I sighed. You're hopeless, utterly hopeless. She said she didn't want a mate, remember? Yes, I do, but you can change her mind. I can feel her wolf on edge when we're around her. I'm thinking her wolf knows her mate is near. She might just be scared. Pfft. Taylor? Scared? That's never going to happen. You have to try at least. For me. I got my phone and earbuds from my bedside table. I jumped back on top of my bed and opened my music. Just think about it, Jason. I know you want her too. Before I turned my music on I thought about something. I knew that I like her, but would she accept me?

Jess POV

I stared at my father. "You can't force two people to love each other!!!!" He looked shocked that I yelled at him. "It's wrong and unfair for Jason and Taylor." I stared him in the eyes. 

"Jess, something has to be done." 

I shook my head. "No, it doesn't. Jason doesn't have to marry Taylor. He should have a choice. What about his mate? What if you were in his shoes? You can't ask him to love Taylor like a mate. He will just be unhappy for the rest of his life." 

Dad slammed his hands on the coffee table. "Dammit, Jess. We needed a fair deal. The other pack asked for our help. The only way for us to unite was to make the deal. It was made and cannot be broken." 

He was wrong. "Dad, why couldn't we just give them protection? Why couldn't you just trust them? They're our kind too." 

He took a deep breath. "Jess, it doesn't work like that. It's how we do things. Stop asking and stay out of this. It does not concern you!"

I felt my anger building up. I stormed out of the house and shifted. I ran through the woods to get away from him. My dad was blinded with fear. He was stupid. Jason can't get married and Taylor will rebel against it. I heard branches snap behind me. As I turned around I felt something big hit my head. I fell down and couldn't get up. My head was swimming in dizziness. I shook my head several times, but that made it worse. I could make out the shapes of wolves surrounding me. Black started to cloud my vision and I realized what they were. Rogues.
