ASHLYN HAD INVITED Phoebe to a small gathering at Big Red's house. EJ had picked her up. James had been hesitant at first but eventually let her go with him. A small gathering ended up being the entire drama club in Big Red's basement.
"This is a terrible party," Natalie complained after a while of awkward silence. "There aren't even pretzels.What are we all doing here?"
"We all ended up in the same basement after a really bad day so someone someone should say something," Ashlyn said from her spot in between EJ and Seb.
"Fine," Carlos spoke up. "I'll say something. I'm mad at Miss Jenn."
"Why?" Gina scoffed. "Because she's got a couple skeletons in her closet?"
"No," Carlos denied. "Because she's giving up. She was the first teacher to not just see me as a punchline, and now she's not even a real teacher?"
"Define real teacher," Ashlyn replied.
"He's got a point," Kourtney countered.
"Does he though?" Natalie quizzed.
"Guys-" Big Red tried.
"Miss Jenn was amazing," Phoebe voiced. "And she taught us all so many wonderful things. . . but let's face reality, guys. Miss Jenn's probably going to get fired and the musical's going to be over."
"Aren't you the same girl who told us to be hopeful earlier?" the same girl from earlier raised a brow.
"Bee has a point," EJ defended, shooting her a nasty look. "This is a complete waste of time. If there's a hearing tomorrow, Miss Jenn is a goner."
"I am a woman of many talents." Clara Lance ran down the stairs, nearly tripping. "Following directions is not of them. I am here, I have arrived, hold your applause." Phoebe laughed at her and patted the spot next to her on the floor. "Sorry, guys," she apologized as she sat down. "You can continue."
"Honestly?" Carlos looked up at all of them. "Because she gave me a shot. And it's been a long time since someone gave me a shot."
"She gave me a voice," Nini piped up from next to Kourtney.
"Yeah, and now nobody's gonna get to hear it because Miss Jenn screwed up," Kourtney bitterly stated.
"Okay," Ashlyn interrupted. "Does anyone here actually care if her past is a little bit sketchy? Anyone?"
"I do," Ricky answered, making everyone turn towards him.
