EPISODE 20

I was still in Amanda's embrace when the door to her ward open briskly snapping me out of my thoughts. We all turned our head towards the door thinking it was the cops but our eyes turned to terror when we saw Norbert holding a knife as he walked towards us. I pulled away from Amanda's embrace as I watched Norbert take each step towards us. His eyes were reddened  enough by rage but his vision was still sharp.

We were all looking at him with terror on our faces. The more he moves closer the more my heart is pounding in my chest, my breathing is heavy, my hands are clammy and my muscles are tense. I was so terrified about what's about to happen.

I could see Ikram shivering uncontrollably on her feet while Amanda held me tightly. He stopped when he was three feet away from us then  he lifted the knife up  and was about to say something when four cops rushed in and I heave a sigh of relief as the tears I was holding streamed down my eyes freely.

" Drop that knife " One of the cops yelled at him.

The shock was written all over his face as he quickly turned to look at them with the knife in his hand and by the expression on his face I guess he wasn't expecting to see them.

" It's not what you think, " He said to the cops raising his two hands up in surrender.

" Drop the knife now, " One of the cops said in a commanding tone and he gently placed the knife on the floor and raised his hands back.

One of the cops quickly moved forward to pick the knife with a  gun in his hand while the rest were pointing their guns at him in case he wanted to try anything funny. Immediately the  cop was able to pick the knife with a white handkerchief, the rest charged at him and pinned him to the ground, and handcuffed him while he keeps saying " It wasn't what you think I swear to God, let me explain myself " He said as he  was being dragged away.

" Are you guys okay ?" The two cops earlier asked us after Norbert has been taken away and we nodded our heads in accordance.

"Thank you so much," I said to the cops.

"You are welcome, we will get you guys' statement tomorrow," The cops said and left.

It still feels so surreal to us, the tension was still in our body. We later get to know Norbert was able to come into Amanda's ward because the nurse on duty was sleeping giving him the opportunity to sneak in . Who could have thought Norbert of all people could have done that. I tried to search through the crowd if am going to see Aayan but he was nowhere to be found. The doctor and nurses came to check up on us and Amanda told them she would like to be discharged that night.

They tried to disagree with her and told her she's not yet healed to be discharged but she told them if someone could come into her ward freely and lunges a knife at us then she's not safe. When they realized her mind was made up they prepared her discharge papers though they made her sign an undertaking that if anything happens to her they won't be held responsible.

Ikram ordered a Uber on her phone after Amanda's discharge papers were finalized. The Uber driver came after some minutes and we headed home. I called my mom immediately we got to our hostel and explained everything to her in between tears though I exclude the part where Aayan and I kissed because I don't want her to be disappointed in me. I rather tell her that face to face than on the phone.   Ikram was also on call explaining everything to her Dad with tears but Amanda refused to call her mom.

"Don't cry honey, your Dad and I will be at your hostel first thing tomorrow morning. Make sure you guys lock the doors and windows. Sleep together in one of your rooms so you can both look after each other "My mom said.

" Ok mom," I said crying and wiping my tears at the same time.

My mom talked to Amanda and Ikram for some minutes before the call ended. We were all so exhausted from today's event that we all lost our appetite. We had to force ourselves to eat bread and tea because of Amanda who just got discharged because she refused to eat unless we do . We all settled to sleep in my room after we were done eating. Amanda sleeps in the middle while Ikram and I sleep at both sides of her on my bed. We said a short prayer and slept off hugging each other.

"I was so happy Amanda's abuser is arrested and I can't wait for tommorow morning to ask her how she got to know him" I said to myself.

IKRAM POV

The incident of what happened in the hospital keeps popping up in my head and I find it hard to sleep. I can't believe Norbert could do all that. He looked so innocent that you would never suspect him. My eyes were closed as I think of what could have happened if the cops didn't come in at the right time.  What did he intend to do with the knife? I don't just get it. Why would he abuse Amanda if he's in love with Imen? How did Amanda get to know him? If he is the abuser then why was it hard for Amanda to tell us knowing he wanted to be friend with Imen?

These are all the thoughts running through my mind and I couldn't think straight. I heard Amanda's phone ring and I was about to open my eyes and switched it off so as not to wake her up when she stood up quietly in our middle and got down from the bed. She picked up her phone on  Imen's dressing table and click the connect button. I could see her hand shivering as she placed the phone to her ear though I couldn't hear what the caller is saying.

I opened my eyes slightly and checked the wall clock and it's just 2 am. "Who is calling her by this time of the day?" I asked no one in particular as I pretended I was also asleep. Could it be her mum? Maybe Imen's mum has told her mom what happened so she wanted to check up on her? But why is she shivering in fear? Who is the caller?

She ended the call after some minutes of talking to the person then tiptoe out of the room so she couldn't wake us up. I made sure she's out of the room before I got down from the bed and tiptoe after her. I wanted to wake Imen but I decided against it because she looks tired while sleeping.  Amanda heads to the front door and opened it with the key on the shelf quietly then heads out.

" Who is she meeting at this time ?" I asked myself as I hide behind the shelf till she is out then I opened the front door after her quietly. I came outside and saw a car parked a few miles in front of our hostel as Amanda walks toward it. This car looks familiar? Where have I seen it before? Who is the person Amanda is meeting at this time? I asked myself as I hide behind the flower  vase outside our hostel peeking at her.

She got to the car and I could not see the person she's talking to because her back was blocking my view to be able to see the person very well. The next thing I heard from her is " No..no..., I can't do that " She said her tone full of terror.

" Do you just say you can't do it ?" The voice said threateningly and it sounds so familiar.

" I can't tell the cops he is the abuser, he is innocent," She said her tone laced with fear.

The next thing I heard was a sound of someone being  slap making Amanda fall to the ground and the person came into view.

" Oh my God, I can't believe Amanda's abuser was Zayed all along," I said shock written all over my face as I covered my mouth with my palms.
