Y/n POV

I sat across from them as tension filled small room. I stared at their excited figures unbelievably as I processed what was just said, did they expect me to just uproot my whole life and move to an entirely different country? A place I've never been to?

In the short space of time where they announced our migration I had already made a list of pros and cons but was still indecisive, not as if I had a choice anyway. It was a completely foreign place though, what was I supposed to do there? I blocked out the rejoicing of my Alabama native stepsister, of course she was happy, she did nothing but complain everyday of the Caribbean heat and her social status here, well lack thereof.  I wasn't mad at my mother, I was overjoyed that she was taking this step in her life and getting married, I just wish I didn't have to be a part of this whole move. Perks of the legal age being eighteen huh? I remained irresponsive for the rest of the evening as I mentally started saying goodbye to our apartment, especially my room. I'll miss this space, the space where I've been my happiest, where I've had most of my breakdowns, where I've done most of my unseen crackhead activity. I'm going to miss my simple life.

Especially if I knew what was going to happen with the move.

Present Day:

I sat at the back of the class, praying for this day to be over, praying to go to my safe space, the bleachers of the basketball court. It was an okay adjustment after the move, I still talk to my friends and the family members I was cool with. I still get to use my dialect with my mother, but it's hard for me to translate what my head thinks in dialect to the way everyone else speaks, so I stay quiet. It's hard though, back home everyone who knew me knew I was far from quiet, I was always apart of something, here I refused to even say a word. I had no huge amount of  friends, I had Chris and Michael, the rest were mere acquaintances I conversed with when necessary, no one spoke to me though, everyone thought I was shy. My stepsister was around when she could be, but I didn't want to seem clingy or needy so I always told her I was fine. "Y/l/n?" the Spanish teacher called, I jumped at the mention of my name and gave her my attention, "Si senora?" I said "I asked you to read the sentence on the whiteboard?" she asked expectantly "Quieres pasar por el parque?" I read fluently. It was honestly an easy sentence, they act like pronunciation is the most difficult when it's not that hard. She gave me a look I've seen before, 'Pay attention even though you may know the answer', I've seen and heard it too often at this point. I tried to give the white board my focus until the end of class  but ended up zoning out while staring at it. The dismissing bell rung and I left the classroom with the usual lecture about zoning out as I expected. I got my things and left school, I never bothered to go home right after school, just stayed at the bleachers until right before sundown. I always let my mother know where I was, even though Leilani was the informant when it came to me. I'm surprised she's never gotten me in trouble, but then I don't do shit to get in trouble here,  I can't, It doesn't fit my 'shy' persona.

I texted my mother and took my spot at the very top of the bleachers and watched as the boring day went by. I contemplated on whether or not I should just go home but then I saw a group of people walk onto the court I recognized some faces from school and the rest from around the neighborhood. There were two guys in the group that seemed familiar but I've never seen them before. They wore black hoodies and basketball shorts. My line of sight was corrupted by a group of females crowding the basketball court, I scoffed at their behavior and shook my head, that could never be me. I went back to my unbothered expression and went on my phone,  it was probably daytime back home I was gonna bother somebody nowwwwww, I thought to myself, cheesing as I scrolled through my contacts. I clicked on my friend Y/f/n's contact, She answered after the third ring. "Heyyy bitchhhhh!" I exclaimed as the facetime connected, "Girllllllllll I was doing homework for Ms. Williams" she said rolling her eyes "You love me, that can wait" I chuckled as she laughed. "I miss you" I said getting serious. "Shit so boring without you here I swear to Godddddddd! Everybody just irking my soul" she sighed "but as long as we can still talk to each other I guess that's still good". "yeah but everybody here thinks I'm shy, girl you can still be yourself" I compared "You? Shy? y/n l/n who went to school with me? my bae y/n y/l/n shy?" She asked "Girllll you need to let these people know you not shy". "Really you not shy?" I heard a foreign voice asked, I jumped at the sudden voice too, great day to leave my airpods home. "NOPE! THAT GIRL IS NOT SHY! SHE A LIL FREAKY FUCK!" y/f/n encouraged "Girlll you telling my life story here" I whispered as the owner of the voice smirked, sitting next to me. "WHY YOU SO QUIET THOUGHHH? WHO'S THAT? girllll why you ain't tell me you gotta lil crush?" y/f/n nagged. "Y/F/N STOP BEING SO DAMN LOUD! Ion even know who that is but clearly you and him friends, y'all both nosey asf" I said side eyeing her then the stranger next to me. "Hi I'm y/f/n, don't mind my friend y/n she just moody, but you seem chill" She introduced "How you know he chill you only heard a voice" I chuckled "You crazy". "I'm Sharife" the person, who I now know as Sharife announced and y/f/n went crazy. "Can I see you real quick?" She asked excited "Damn, look at that, it took me years to get that kinda love, it only take his voice, I see you" I muttered "Girl stop hating, lemme see the dude" she demanded "Aight" I sighed, before I could hand a complete STRANGER my phone, Sharife put his himself in the frame himself, laying his on my shoulder. "Girlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll" She dragged out as she saw him and Sharife smirked, "Girlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll" I mocked "You don't know who that is?" she asked. "No, but I know that he need to stop touching me and leave me alone" I mugged. "That's Sharife" she said as though it was the most obvious thing, "Yeah I know he said that" I said with an unbothered expression. "Sharife Cooper the basketball player, his sister is Te'a Cooper?" She exclaimed "Oh forreal? That's cool" I said giving Sharife a once over, he still hadn't removed his head, I can't say I enjoyed the contact any more than I was before, even though he's Sharife Cooper. "I'm gonna go though" she said excusing herself "You'll call me back " she hung up, leaving me no chance to protest. I internally sighed before I turned my attention toward my shoulder. "Are you gonna move?"
