Previously....
I plopped myself down on my bed as I facetimed my friend, y/f/n, getting ready to share the details of my day with her. "Frienddddddddd!" She exclaimed as she picked up, "what's up with the Soap Opera of Rife and Y/n/n todayyyy?!"

My mother is the first to notice my slumped shoulders as I went down the into the kitchen that evening, I reassured her multiple times that I was perfectly fine and it was just some school stuff. I mean technically... it was.

I helped her set up the table for dinner, something that sort of became a ritual between us, we'd use the time to catch up on each other's lives and crack jokes about the fact that some people just should not be allowed in the kitchen. I'd listen to her talk about her job as a sous chef, excitedly nodding and replying to her as she replayed and unfolded the events of her day to me.

"So y/n/n I seen the dude just take the chicken and only sprinkle some salt" she cackled "I was so disgusted, like he ignored the whole cupboard of spices and seasoning"

"You lying Ma, tell me you lying" I exclaimed, my body trembling as I died of laughter "I just removed him from the skillet, I told him to go boil the rice because that what he was about to do was not it". "Thats mean he probably felt bad" I sympathized sarcastically as tears started pooling in my eyes, threatening to spill.

"Hey y/m/n, hey y/n" My mother's fiancé greeted as he came through the door. He went straight up to their room after we responded, leaving us to finish our conversation. I proceeded to tell my mother about the dude from earlier, but leaving out the kiss. I felt like she didn't need to know that part yet. She had a general jist of what today was about. I mean she seemed interested when I told her about him the day before and today she was the one who actually brought it up first, but I don't feel like I should add in that detail like "Mama, so this guy kissed me because his ex or whatever was passing" I feel like it's essential to fill your parents on your life, at least the one that you're comfortable with, or something like that, but you can leave out stuff.

By the time everyone was situated around the table and was invested in both their meals and the current conversation, it was around seven thirty. "So Lani, how was school today?" her father, Layton, asked "Daddy school was okay for me" She said "A bit stressful having to stay back for cheer but it's okay" -Now I know she know she wrong for that, she know she been quit cheer ever since she started ditching last month to go God knows where- But that's not my business, so I kept a hushed mouth and nodded along with everyone else. "y/n/n how bout you how wa-"

"Y'all y/n got a boyfriend, I seen her leaving school today and he was following her, walking with her" Big mouth said cutting her father off. "A boyfriend?" both adults asked with raised eyebrows, my mother looking less confused at the situation, more so questioning the wording. "It's not even like that" I rebutted, giving Leilani the stank eye out of the corner of my narrowed eye . "Really? I was passing with my friends in their car and I saw him kiss you" She said. So she was in the car too? She hangs with Xyia? "He kissed you?" my mother questioned and of course they completely ignored the fact that she snitched on herself. "Exactly, he kissed me, I shoved him off" I said, rolling my eyes subtly. Oh but did little miss perfect catch the eyeroll. "You're so rude to your mother, over there rolling your eyes and you need to watch your tone" she said snobbily. "Girl hush, I'm rolling my eyes at you, at first it was cool that you actually used to pay attention to me when I just moved here but now that sh-stuff is just being straight out nosy as hell " I snapped "You stay talking down at me like you better than me, then shi-oot fine, you Mary the immaculate sis you pure as everrrrr! You stay wanting to find something on me like we competing for somebody to like us or think we angels! Why you ain't tell yo' dad you quit cheer?" I said making her go into shock "oh, that's what I thought, but you always in my business, spreading sh-stuff that ain't even true, You do too much" I left the table with those words, While I half expected her to react she didn't as I also had assumed. My mother called my name as I stomped up the steps, following behind me as I trudged to "my" room.

"What the fuck is that shit you just carried on with? You fucking deaf when I call you, you answer" she scolded "Why you think you could do that? You were going so good then you fuck it up! you think it's okay to embarrass me?"

"No Ma" I said fighting back the urge to roll my eyes and smack my teeth at the fact that she was defending her... as usual. I don't know how I missed this when I was introducing her, but she was the type to hide her bad shit and display her glittered goodness and I didn't care about that, what I did care about was the fact that she felt the need to make me look bad while she made herself look good.

"Fix that attitude, come back downstairs and apologize and it better at least look sincere otherwise I'm taking that phone" she commanded as she turned on her heel, "You have five minutes" she said while walking out of the door.

I sighed as I walked back downstairs hating more than anything to apologize, but my sanity was at risk here.
