Hogwarts had changed dramatically in the days following the second break-in. Big burly trolls guarded several of the entrances to Hogwarts, including the portrait hole to Gryffindor Tower, and several teachers loitered around the more well known secret corridors. Filch ran around with copious amounts of wood and 'Mr Holeystocker Wall Filler' to fill every nook and cranny across the castle. Even the weather was changing, the snow beginning to melt into the disgusting brown sludge that was impossible to not track through the castle.
Persephone was currently sitting next to Klara in Transfiguration, watching the class attempt to transform a ferret into a feather duster. She had completed the spell successfully about thirty minutes prior, transforming the brown ferret into a bright pink mess of feathers. Cedric and Gus were sitting behind them, also struggling with the spell.
Looking around the classroom, she glanced at Fred and George, who were playing with an orb of light they had conjured. Using their wands, they flicked it back and forth between them. Eventually, they flicked it over to Persephone. She giggled quietly as the orb turned into a red heart, orbiting around her head. It burst with a pop and a flick of McGonagall's wand, showering her in transparent confetti that littered the desk before disappearing moments after.
"Weasley, Lupin, on task. The whole class is aware you're in love you don't need to remind us every five minutes," snapped McGonagall in her thick Scottish accent.
"You can say that again," said a voice from behind her. She apologised to the transfiguration teacher, before turning around, expecting to see Jasper or Marcus Flint, but was instead faced with the annoyed face of Cedric Diggory.
Huffing, she turned to face Klara, who could still only achieve a mousey brown feathery mess of ferret. "Who put a wand up his ass?"
"You and Fred apparently - But don't act as if I know half as much as you do, you and Cedric have been shutting out both me and Gus since your little sibling tiff."
Persephone felt her stomach sumersault with guilt at the idea that her friends felt disregarded. She never meant to make her friends feel tossed aside, but it was easier to do that then have to face the brooding moods of Cedric and the stares anytime he saw her and Fred together. Persephone raised her brows at the irony, 'sibling tiff'. She wished it was a simple, best friend/brother and sister disagreement. She wished it was that simple.
The bell rang for the end of class, causing an uproar as students bustled to put away their ferret and escape from the 'Wednesday School Day Depression'. Klara had run off for choir practice, dragging Gus along with her. Even McGonagall had vacated the room, probably to get a much needed tea in the staffroom. This left Cedric and Persephone.
Fred lingered at the door, leaning against the door frame as he waited.
Persephone was taking the time to put her parchment away as she eyed Cedric, placing the last of his quills in his quill case. He looked up at her and then looked at the door. He groaned loudly, "Does he follow you everywhere?"
"Do you have a problem?" Persephone asked, closing the last flap on her bag.
"No not really, do you?"
Persephone scoffed at his sarcastic tone, "yes I do, actually."
Cedric put his stuff back on the desk with a slam. Fred, who was just silently observing, pushed himself up so he was standing straight, beginning to approach the two.
"Care to explain then? Because I am fine, excellent actually.''
Persephone rolled her eyes, "Are you kidding? There's been nothing but snide comments and death stares since New Years, and I surely haven't don't anything wrong to deserve them."
