Odell

I ran my hand along Demi's back, leaning in to gently kiss her temple. She smiled at the contact.

"You okay?" she nodded as my lips brushed against her ear. She leant more into me, my hand sliding along her waist just as my mom stepped back into the room with a tray of drinks.

"You okay, Honey?" Demi nodded, flashing my mom a light smile as she leant to grab a glass of water. Mom slowly lowered herself onto the couch opposite, her eyes watching me with curiosity. I glanced to Demi who took in a deep breath. She glanced to meet my gaze and then subtly shook her head. I turned back to my mom who raised her eyebrows at me. "What's going on?" I glanced back to Demi who nodded as she stared down at her glass.

"We-We're pregnant. Demi's pregnant. We-We're having a baby" I watched as my mom's mouth dropped in surprise to then spread into a smile moments later. Her hands clasped over her mouth as she released what sounded like a sort of scream.

"Oh my gosh. I'm going to be a grandma" her eyes suddenly welled up with tears as she threw herself at us, her arms locking around us. I couldn't help but to lightly laugh as I hugged her back. "I'm so happy for you both" she flashed me a wide smile as she pulled herself away from the hug.

"I'm sorry, Heather, but I really need the restroom" Demi spoke through her hand, she had suddenly gone very pale.

"Go, Honey" I watched Demi with an ache in my chest as she pushed herself off the couch and she ran out of the room. Mom lowered herself onto the couch beside me and then wrapped me up in another hug. "I'm so happy for you, Odell. How do you feel?"

"I'm nervous but I'm also excited. The sickness has been bad though so I'm obviously a little worried."

"It's all normal, Honey, I promise" she lightly smiled at me. "I had major sickness with you. It should ease off eventually" I nodded as I leant to grab my phone off the coffee table.

"I took a photo of the ultrasound if you want to see?"

"That's such a stupid question, of course I want to see" I lightly laughed as I unlocked my phone and showed her the ultrasound. "Oh, it looks beautiful" I rolled my eyes but I couldn't help but to agree. "How many weeks is she?"

"That was when she first found out, she was 6 weeks. She's now 8. We had an appointment yesterday for a check up. We won't see the baby again until our next appointment in 3 weeks but everything seems fine so far" mom flashed me a smile as she handed me back my phone.

"So, has this baby made you reconsider your whole not marrying thing?" I rolled my eyes as I stared down at the ultrasound.

"Mom."

"What? You have a beautiful girlfriend who's having your baby. I just wondered if you had ever reconsidered it?"

"No, Mom, okay? I haven't. I just don't see the need to get married. It's just a piece of paper at the end of the day."

"Does Demi know that this is how you feel?"

"No, we've only been dating for 5 months. Surely she isn't thinking about marriage" mom lightly laughed as she took a hold of my hand and gave it a squeeze.

"Every girl dreams of her wedding day, Odell" I stared down at my hands as a silence settled around us. "Hey Honey. You okay?" mom spoke a few minutes later and I lifted my head, glancing to Demi who stepped into the room, looking pale as fuck.

"Not really. My stomachs turning" her hand settled on her belly.

"You wanna head home, Babe?" her eyes dropped to the floor as she nodded, she didn't once meet my gaze. Mom pushed herself up from the couch and walked over to Demi who she locked into a hug. Demi briefly met my gaze before she looked away.

"I'm so happy for you both. You're going to make such a beautiful baby" Demi smiled as she pulled away from the hug. "The sickness will go away eventually, Sweetheart."

"I hope so because it's a pain in the ass" mom leant to kiss Demi's cheek. "Thank you for having us over, Heather. I-I'm sorry that we can't stay any longer but I'm so tired."

"I've been there, Demi. If you have any questions, you can come to me" she lightly stroked a strand of hair behind Demi's ear.

"Thanks Heather" she pressed another kiss to Demi's cheek and then walked with us towards the front door. I placed my hand on Demi's back as I led her down the driveway but she just seemed to shrug it off. I held the passenger door open for her and then waved at my mom as I walked around the car to the driver's side. I glanced at Demi as I buckled my seatbelt, she was staring down at her hands as she twiddled with her fingers. There was an awkwardness between us.

"You okay, Baby?" she nodded once in reply, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning back into the chair as I reached over to touch her hand. It was like she recoiled from my touch. I shook my head as a heaviness settled in my stomach. I placed the car in drive and then backed out of the driveway. The drive back to mine was silent, no words were exchanged between us. It has never felt like this. I have never felt like this with anyone. I pulled into my driveway but before I could question Demi, she had climbed from the car and was making her way up to the front door.  I released a sigh before I climbed from the car, slamming the door shut behind me. Demi was leant against the wall, staring down at the floor. She pushed herself away from the wall as I stepped onto the porch. "We're not going into the house until you tell me why you're giving me the silent treatment?" she glanced away briefly, my heart ached at the tears glistening in her eyes.

"When were you planning to tell me that you never saw yourself getting married?" You fucking idiot, Odell.
