Instead of the coarse sand or cold cave, Jamil woke up on a soft bed with the light of the sunset coming in from the window. From the lack of decorations on the ceiling, he concluded that he wasn't in Scarabia. The mattress and blanker also weren't as soft as in his dorm room. And from the chemical smell, Jamil would've guessed that he's in the infirmary right now.
He heard the sound of a chair scraping the floor and a blob of white immediately jumped at him. "Jamil!"
"Kalim..." Jamil coughed. Kalim flinched and pulled back slowly, allowing him to sit up. Jamil looked at his arms. Bandages. Touching his face and chest, he felt them too. He got it bad, huh? He looked at Kalim, who also had bandages. His brows furrowed. "Why are you crying?"
Tears dripped down from his ruby eyes and Kalim made no attempt to wipe them. "I-I'm so glad you're alive...I'm so happy-" He sniffed and dove again, hugging Jamil, not so tight knowing his body is still healing. "I'm sorry..." he whispered, smiling shakily. "I'm sorry for never realizing your feeling. Can we...can we still be friends?"
Jamil froze. Be friends...with this guy? He could feel his hands trembled whether from anger or tiredness. He stared with a sigh before putting his hands on the others' shoulders. "Kalim. Listen." He slowly pushed him back, giving them distance. "We are never friends."
"Eh?"
"I'll be completely honest." His hands on Kalim's shoulder tightened as his voice became lower, anger and annoyance bubbling in his chest ready to be released. "You are hopeless. So sketchy, stupidly clumsy, and a really carefree and materialistic rich kid!" The last bit was shouted before going back to growling. "Who would honestly be friends with someone like you?"
Kalim rolled his shoulder uncomfortably from the tightness of Jamil's grip. "But...you...I..."
"We may be growing up under the same roof, but we never actually grew up together, do we?" Jamil's face got closer, it looked like he was towering over Kalim as Kalim's eyes widened in fear. "We're from two different worlds. There's no way your tiny brain can understand my feeling. Should I spell it out for you? We are just master and servant. No more, no less."
Tears started to drop from Kalim's eyes once again but the smile of relief had disappeared from his face. "But...but I..."'
Jamil sighed. He let go of his hand and flopped back down to the bed. "I'm tired." He turned to the side, ignoring the pain, and pulled his blanket over his head. "Go away. I need to rest."
He didn't get an answer, which was good. Maybe that thickhead finally gets the message. A few moments of silence before he heard the sound of footsteps. It was gentle at first before it took off on a run.
Jamil huffed. What is Kalim thinking? Does he think that they can just be friends like they 'used to be' after the revelation? They can pretend. He can play pretend that he cares again just for the sake of publicity. He doesn't care. He had been doing this for years. He can do this even longer.
"You're going to regret that."
Jamil lowered his blanket, glaring at the newcomer who was leaning by the doorframe with his arms crossed. "What do you want, Azul?"
"You know you hurt his feelings." Azul stared at him in an almost pity looks. But why though? "You're going to regret that sooner or later."
Jamil rolled his eyes. "Let him know I hate him. Then, he'll be out of my skin."
"How can you be sure that he wouldn't tell his parents?"
"He won't."
"Are you sure?"
