Eyes On You // Benny Rodriguez

Part 6

All the boys were up bright and early the next morning ready to play some more ball

Luckily Benny and I woke up before any of them did so we could clean things up and not look suspicious from last night, Because if just one of the boys found out about what we did, eventually everyone would know within a day, two if we're lucky.

Squints and Yeah-Yeah went to go get the new ball so we could play. What seemed like hours later they finally came back

"Took you guys long enough!" Ham said

"Squints was pervin a dish!" Yeah Yeah said handing the ball they had just bought to Benny

"Shut up!" Squints yelled at him "I wasn't"

"Yeah yeah you was!" Yeah yeah said" "your tongue was hanging out of your mouth and you were swooning!! Oh Wendy Peffercorn, my darling lover girl!"

"I said shut UP!!" Squints yelled as he went over and sat on the bench and grabbed some pop to drink

It was super hot that day and everyone was downing pops left and right, but it wasn't helping

"Who's Wendy Peffercorn?" I asked

"Squints could tell you all about her" Yeah yeah teased

Squints rolled his eyes and pushed up his glasses

"Alright, you guys ready to play?" Benny asked

"Don't you think it's a little too hot out here for baseball today" Squints said

"Yeah yeah we only got so much soda" Yeah yeah said

"A little heat won't hurt" Benny said

All the boys got up slowly and put their gloves but I didn't really want to. I thought I was going to pass out from the heat, But I didn't say anything acting fine and just rolled with it. Plus I didn't want to seem like a baby

We played for next few hours and every minute that went by it just felt hotter

Benny was the only one who didn't seem bothered by it, but that's not shocking. Benny would play in any weather condition on any day. DeNunez told me the other day that last year for Benny's 14th birthday all he wanted was to play baseball.

"here y/n, you're up" Benny handed me the bat.

I didn't want to say no, but I didn't know if I had the energy in me to bat and run, I didn't want to pass out

"I don't have to go, let Squints bat or someone else" I said

"Come on y/n you have nothing to worry about, your pretty much the second best batter here, cause you'll never be as good as me" he said smiling

I laughed and looked down at the bat "Ok, ok, i'll bat"

I instantly regretted that decision.

I switched spots with Benny and got ready to bat. I was so hot sweat was dripping down my face and around me eyes but I still managed to watch the ball and swing the bat as hard as my arms would give

CRACK!!

The ball went flying but I couldn't see if it went over the fence, the sun made it to bright to see.

I ran the bases stomping my foot on each one as I passed it. I felt myself starting to get a bit lightheaded but I let it go and kept running. I made it back to home right before the ball got to Ham.

Everything seemed great, everyone was cheering and Scotty gave me a thumbs up, but the heat took over my body. I started seeing stars and my legs felt like jello. I didn't know what was really happening but I felt my body fall and slam against the ground.

BENNYS POV:

I watched y/n drop to the ground, my heart dropped with her.

I ripped my glove off and sprinted towards her, so did the other guys. I got to her first and got on 

my knees next to her scooping her up onto my lap. Her eyes were drooping shut but they were still open a bit.

It killed me inside as I held her limp body in my arms, that she isn't ok

I took my hat off and put in on her head to help cool her down

"Her skin is burning hot" I told the guys

"Squints get her a water!!" Bertram yelled

Squints ran over to the bench in the dugout and grabbed a bottled water and ran back over, he then gave it to me.

Smalls came over and kneeled next to me "Y/n come on" he put a hand on her leg

I took the cap off the water and put the bottle in her hand. "Drink y/n, you need it"she slowly brought the bottle to her mouth starting to gulp down the water

She downed the whole bottle in about 30 seconds

"I told you Benny man" Squints said "It's way to hot out here for baseball"

"Yeah yeah now y/n is suffering" Yeah yeah said

I looked down at her tomato red face, this was all my fault, I felt terrible.

"Y/n say something!" Scotty said, I thought he was gonna cry. Honestly I thought I was too.

She dropped the empty water bottle on the ground "Did the ball go over the fence?" she asked and smiled a bit

I chuckled a bit and smiled. I put a hand on her cheek. "Yes it did"

"Yay!" she said softly and happy

She started to open her eyes almost all the way now.

I was relieved she was ok but I still felt so guilty that this was all my fault, I shouldn't have made her play. "I'm so sorry y/n this is all my fault, I shouldn't have made us play in this heat"

"It's ok" she said "I was scared you guys are gonna take it easy on me now"

"Don't worry about that" I said "I just won't make anymore bad decisions that put you or any of us in danger."

"Yeah yeah and your still adjusting to the heat" Yeah yeah said "We are used to it at this point, our bodies have learned to handle it"

"Thanks guys" y/n said "I'm so grateful to have great friends like you guys"

We all smiled

I didn't realize how much I actually cared about this girl until her life was in danger. I feel something inside of me i've never felt before when I'm with her

Y/n had enough energy now to sit up and stand back up, I still stood right next to her though in case something happened

"Well what are we gonna do now" Ham asked "It's only 11!"

Yeah Yeah smirked and looked at everyone

"POOL!!!" They all shouted in unison

I was ok with it because it was the one thing that I actually didn't mind doing instead of playing baseball, and best of all it will help y/n.
