“Duke, do we really have to attend the banquet at the Capital?” Adelina

“Yes, is there a problem Duchess? Are you feeling uncomfortable? Why do you look so pale?” The Duke asked worriedly

They were on their way to the Capital.

Now that the war ended, the King would award the Duke for his contributions to the kingdom.

Adelina have a bad feeling.

Wasn’t the setting of the first chapter of the novel [Queen of Hearts] at the Grand Banquet to welcome the glorious return of the Duke of Lancaster?

That’s when Niklaus and Lilianna got reunited.

Will everything be alright?

“I’m glad that you decided to stay at the Capital for a while, I can now visit everyday.” Maxwell said happily as he eat some cookies

“I have some unfinished business to take care of.” Niklaus

“What unfinished business?” Maxwell asked curiously

“Lilianna Heronia.”

Maxwell almost choked on the cookies, he stared wide-eyed at the Duke, “She’s back?!”

“Yes.” Niklaus

“Are you planning to tell the Duchess?” Maxwell

Niklaus shook his head, “Don’t tell her anything either, she will only get worried.”

“But—”

“I will bury you alive if you open your mouth.” Niklaus warned

“Fine, I get it.”

Contrary to Adelina’s expectations, the Grand Banquet passed without any major event.

The Duke said that they will be staying at the Capital for a while.

However, the Duke is acting weird these days.

He would often miss dinner.

He’s rarely home.

She specially took her time this morning to ask if he will be home for dinner tonight, but the Duke said he’s busy with some work so he won’t be able to come home tonight.

He’s obviously giving her the cold shoulder, which makes her a little anxious.

Something’s up.

And she’s in the dark.

Completely clueless.

“Duchess, I heard t-that the Duke placed an order for the Midnight Necklace. P-perhaps, is he planning to gift it to you as a surprise?” Luella asked excitedly

Adelina have also heard about the Midnight Necklace from the other ladies during the banquet a few nights ago, it’s famous in the entire capital because of it’s sophistication and design. She heard it’s very pricey too! These days, every women dreams of receiving it as a gift from their lovers and husbands.

“I doubt that.” Adelina heaved a heavy sigh. She can’t seem to understand the duke these days. Does he not like her anymore?

Seeing her sour mood, Luella asked if she wanted to take a look around the shops in the capital to cheer her up.

Adelina agreed, she’s bored anyways.

The two decided to do it incognito, they dressed simply to not attract too much attention.
