"So, why are you so interested in Brooks?" Amelia asked as we walked into our cabin for the week.
"I read her files. She had it rough as a kid like I did. Abusive family, kicked out at fourteen, foster family, she's been top of her class like me and you too. She just didn't get as lucky as I did." I shrugged.
"I get it. She seems like a good Doctor." Amelia wrapped her arms around me.
"She will be, if she listens to me. Cause you know I'm a bad ass." I kissed her nose.
"The baddest of all asses you mean." She joked.
"Take it back!" I faked being hurt.

"Nope!" She ran away from me, and I ran after her.
That's what I loved about her. She was fun, but serious when she needed to be. She's a damn good person, she's smart as hell too. She knows what she wants in life, and she won't let anyone stop her from getting it.

"Got you!" I tackled her on the bed.
"Yes you did. You'll always get me."
"Good. Cause I'll never stop chasing you, even though you're mine."
"God, you're so cheesy." She laughed.
"And that's another reason why you love me. Aside from my looks, my brain, and my sex skills."

"God I do love all those things. Especially that brain of yours. Sex skills are a close second though." She kissed my forehead.
"Are you sure you want to go into neuro? I know Derek is in it and I know how he treats you sometimes." I laid on the bed next to her.
"Neuro is calling me, and I must answer." She said dramatically.
"I'm being serious Amy. Sometimes I wanna knock Derek out cause of the way he talks to you. I love him, but damn he treats you like shit sometimes."

"Babe, don't worry about it. I can handle my brother. Neuro is my dream job. It's my calling. I want Neuro."
"Okay, okay. As long as you're happy. Now get your butt up and get dressed. I'm taking you out to eat." I smacked her butt as she got off the bed.

"Where are we going? Do I need to dress nice?" She asked as she lugged our suit case into the bedroom.
"I packed you a dress that you can wear. Throw that on for me." I reached in the suitcase and handed her the dress.
"You're the best baby." She leaned over and gave me a kiss.
"Go get ready beautiful, I'm gonna call my sister and let her know we're here."

Maya

"What's up sis?" I answered her FaceTime call.
"Amy's in the bathroom getting ready for dinner. I was just letting you and Mom know that we're here."

I could tell she was nervous, she kept biting the inside of her lip.
"Ciao farfalla! And quit biting your lip." Carina said as she popped her head into view.
"Sorry Mom. I'm just nervous."

"She loves you kid. She's gonna say yes. She'd be dumb not to."
"What if it's too soon? We don't even live together yet. I can't ask her to marry me when we don't even live together! Can I?"
"Of course you can. Plenty of people do it like that. You got this kid. We're so proud of you." I smiled at her.

"Thanks guys. I'm gonna go get ready. I'll call you after I do it. I love you."
"We love you too farfalla!"

I hung up the phone and sighed.
"What's wrong bambina?" Carina asked softly.
"Our little fourteen year old baby is grown up now. Can you believe she's been in our lives for nine years?"
"I can't believe it either. I feel like she's still the lost teenager you found on the side of the road. Is it too late to stop her from growing up?" Carina wiped a tear off her face.
"Yeah. It's a little too late baby." I kissed my fiancé's cheek.

"God that food was amazing." Amelia said as we walked out of the restaurant.
"I know. Come on, I wanna show you something." I grabbed her hand, and led her to a walking path.
"Where are we going?" She asked as I led her out onto the beach.

"To look at the water. Come on goofy." I laughed and we walked to the water.
"It's really beautiful out here." She whispered as I hugged her from behind.

"Yeah. It really is." I kissed her cheek.
"Wait. I wanna get a picture of you looking at the water. Stay there." I quickly pulled my phone out of my pocket and hit record, setting it on a rock so I could record this moment.

I pulled the ring out of my pocket, and got down on one knee.
"Okay my love." I said quietly.
"I'm so ready to go back to the- oh my God!" She turned and gasped.
"Amelia Frances Shepherd, I love you. I've loved you since the moment I laid eyes on you. Who would've known after three years of hooking up, that I'd finally ask you to go on a date with me. I'm so thankful we turned that one night stand into something more. You're the calm to my crazy. The bright and shiny to my dark and twisty. I love you so, so much. Will you marry me?"
