Life was great, for now at least, Sanemi and Giyuu are the only hashiras that survived the final battle, but the probably wouldn't survive pass their twenty fifth year.  Both Giyuu and Sanemi decided to cherish the four years they still had to live.

They did it differently, Giyuu did everything in a rush, got married but never had children.  Sanemi on the other hand, lived a simple life until he died and never planed to get married.

It was a fine spring day as Sanemi sat in a rocking chair with some green tea in his hands.  Peace and harmony were things that he had learned to enjoy over the past three years, but he never once forgot the pain of losing loved ones, it was just buried deep inside his soul.  He wouldn't admit it, but he was jealous, jealous that Genya, Kanae and  Masachika were happy without him. But then, he didn't have much longer to live either.

Spring was his favorite season of the year, sakura trees would bloom, the snow would melt and grass would grow.  It told a story of the hardships of winter, but all difficulties come to a end as spring would always come.  It reminded him of the struggles that humanity had before demons had been eradicated.

Sanemi gazed calmly at the many flowers in his garden, they were so pretty, but nothing was prettier than Kanae.  His eyes landed on a vine that was struggling to climb up the fence, but he knew that it would grow tendrils to help pull itself up.  Just like Genya.

With that, his eyes closed, never to open again.  The teacup in his hand crashed to the ground a moment later, the ghost of a sound echoing through the empty courtyard.  On cue, all the flowers in the garden started wilting, in mourn of the fallen hero.

Sanemi opened his eyes, everything was a little blurry and his head was pounding.  He felt a gentle hand running through his hair, soothing his scalp.

"Take your time...I'm not going anywhere..."  A voice said, it made him feel empty but happy at the same time, sweet but bitter, lovely but about to wither.

Something about those simple words eased his tense muscles, he relaxed a little and his vision cleared.  He was met by the kindest eyes and the gentalist smile.

"Kanae....."

"Welcome to the land of the dead, Shinazugawa-san."

It took a few moments for this to process in Sanemi's brain.

"I-I'm not dreaming, right? Y-you're n-not going to disappear any second, right?

Kanae chuckled dryly, "That's the weirdest thing I've heard you say over the years, funny how someone who has battled hundreds of demons can say something so childish the first thing they wake up." When Sanemi didn't reply, Kanae continued, "I expected you to jump up and shout something along the lines of 'Where the hell am I'." She chucked again at the thought and gazed calmly at their surroundings.

"I-I've gotten over that." Sanemi stuttered as he looked down, then looked up and followed Kanae's gaze, surveying the area they were in. A tranquil silence fell over the pair as they enjoyed the scenery. In the few moments, something was told and understood between them.

I've waited for you for so long

I missed you

I missed you more

Those few words were enough reassurance for both.
