"Tomioka, see for yourself."

"It's a demon." Giyuu said, his voice devoid of any true emotion.

"It's a demon, so we must kill it."

"We...kill" Giyuu's right hand trembled and his voice wavered slightly, "...it."

"That is correct."

The girl in front of him was a demon, and his job was to kill demons, no questions asked.

"We're going to tie it up on the tree outside and expose it to the sun."

Giyuu stayed silent and tried to look indifferent, even if he was internally breaking down.

"Look, Tomioka, I don't care what connections you had with it in the past, but it is a demon and demons must be exterminated."

"What if she's like Kamado Nezuko?"

"It's not resistant to Shinazugawa's blood."

Giyuu watched helplessly as the demon's hands were tied together and dragged outside. Dawn was near, someone he cared for was going to die again.

Only the pain on my wrists kept me grounded to reality. The sun was rising, dreadfully steadfast and unstoppable.

Everything is, without a doubt, going to end here.

The final smile that I wore on my face was pure and genuine, unlike the thousands of others in my lifetime. He looked up, tears glazing his beautiful deep blue eyes, turning them into the brilliant ocean that they resembled so much, the sea that I loved so much.

I was ready to leave without regret. I had found it, the thing that I needed so desperately even if it came and went with the fleeting summer breeze.

The first rays of sunlight streamed from between the branches, signaling my last breath. The world faded black and the flame that represented my life, the flame that I had held onto so tightly, slipped from my hands.

"Shinobu!"

"Goodbye, Tomioka Giyuu."
