In Rivendell
...

As I looked thru the window I saw dad talking with Lord Elrond and the dwarfs getting surrounded by elves "Strange for orcs to come so close to our borders. Something or someone has drawn them near" I said once I arrived "Ah, that may have been us"Dad said I chuckled and gave him a hug "Welcome Thorin, son of Thrain"Lord Elrond said "I do not believe we have met"Thorin replied "You have your Grandfather's bearing. I knew Thror when he ruled under the mountain"Lord Elrond said "Indeed? He made no mention of you"Thorin said "* Galad i fires, tul- forth i miruvor. Mín must feed mín guests *(Light the fires, bring forth the wine. We must feed our guests)" Lord Elrond said in elvish "What is he saying? Does he offer us insult?"Glion said and prepared to fight "No, Master Gloin, he's offering you food"I said, all the dwarfs turn around forming a circle and began to discuss "Ah, Well. In that case, lead on"Gloin said as they all turned around to look at Lord Elrond.

At the dinner table
...
"Kind of you to invite us. I'm not really dressed for dinner"Dad said"Well, you never are" Lord Elrond replied and we joined the dwarfs "This is Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver. A famous blade, forged by the High Elves of the West. My kin"Lord Elrond said as he examines "May it serve you well"Lord Elrond said and gave the sword back to Thorin,Dad hands me his sword and I looked at it,looking at every detail "And this is Glamdring. The Foe-hammer, sword of the King of Gondolin. These swords were made for the Goblin wars of the First..."I said but didn't continue,I gave the sword back to dad and took a sip of the water "How did you come by these?"Lord Elrond asked "We found them in a troll hoard on the Great East road, shortly before we were ambushed by orcs"Dad said "And what were you doing on the Great East road?"Lord Elrond asked.

Later that night
...
"Our business is no concern of Elves"Thorin said "For goodness sake. Thorin, show him the map!"Dad said "It is the legacy of my people. It's mine to protect! As are its secrets"Thorin replied "Save me from the stubbornness of dwarves. Your pride will be your downfall. You stand here in the presence of two of the few in Middle-earth who can read that map. Show it to Lord Elrond!"Dad said "Thorin, no!"Balin said as Thorin took out the map and gave it to Lord Elrond "Erebor. What is your interest in this map?"Lord Elrond asked "It's mainly academic. As you know, this sort of artifacts sometimes contains hidden text"Dad replied "You two still read ancient dwarvish, do you not?"Dad asked I nodded "'Cirth ithil"I read from the map "Moon runes. Of course. An easy thing to miss"Dad said Lord Elrond gave me the map "Well in this case, that is true. Moon runes can only be read by the light of the moon of the same shape and season as the day on which they were written"I said "Can you read them?"Thorin asked me "Elrond: These runes were written on a mid-summer's eve by the light of a crescent moon nearly two hundred years ago. It would seem you were meant to come to Rivendell. Fate is with you, Thorin Oakenshield. The same moon shines upon us tonight"I said and placed the map on a stone slab right under the moon, and as the moon's light shines on the map, it reveals the runes "Stand by the grey stone when the thrush knocks, and the setting sun with the last light of Durin's Day will shine upon the keyhole"I translated "Durin's Day?"Bilbo asked "It is the start of the dwarves new year, when the last moon of Autumn and the first sun of Winter appear in the sky together"Dad explained to Bilbo "This is ill news. Summer is passing, Durin's Day will soon be upon us"Thorin said "We still have time"Balin said "Time, for what?"Bilbo asked "To find the entrance. We have to be standing at exactly the right spot, at exactly the right time. Then, and only then, can the door be opened"Balin said "So this is your purpose, to enter the mountain"Lord Elrond said "What of it?"Thorin asked "There are some who would not deem it wise"Lord Elrond said and gave the map back to Thorin "Who do you mean?"Dad asked "You are not the only guardian to stand watch over Middle-earth"Lord Elrond said and walked away.

Later that evening
...

"With or without our help, these dwarves will march on the mountain. They're determined to reclaim their homeland. I do not believe Thorin Oakenshield feels that he's answerable to anyone. Nor for that matter am I"Dad said "But it's not me you must answer to"Lord Elrond said we turn around and see Galadriel "Lady Galadriel"Dad said "Mithrandir"Galadriel said "* Ha has been a an anand *(It has been a long time)"Dad said "* Anrand lothron gar- changed nin, but ú- so i híril -o Lorien*(Age may have changed me, but not so the lady of Lorien)"Galadriel said and smiled "I had no idea Lord Elrond had sent for you"Galadriel said "He didn't. I did"Saruman said "Saruman"Galadriel said "You've been busy of late, my friends"Saruman said to dad and I "Tell me, Gandalf,Euphoria, did you think these plans and schemes of yours would go unnoticed?"Saruman asked "Unnoticed? No, we simply doing what we feel to be right"I said "The dragon has long been on your mind"Galadriel said to dad "It is true, my Lady. Smaug owes allegiance to no one. But if he should side with the enemy, the dragon could be used to terrible effect"Dad said "What enemy? Gandalf, the enemy is defeated. Sauron is vanquished. He can never regain his full strength"Saruman said "Gandalf, for four hundred years we have lived in peace. A hard won watchful peace"Lord Elrond said "Are we? Are we at peace? Trolls have come down from the mountains, they are raiding villages, destroying farms. Orcs have attacked us on the road"Dad said "Hardly a prelude to war"Lord Elrond said "Always you must meddle. Looking for trouble where none exists!"Saruman said "Let him speak"Galadriel said,I got up and walked to her "I missed you"i whispered to her "I missed you to my darling"She replied,I gave her a hug and sat back down,I'm happy I got to see her again I haven't seen my mom in ages "There is something at work beyond the evil of Smaug, something far more powerful. We can remain blind to it, but it will not be ignoring us, that I can promise you. A sickness hides over the Greenwood. The woodsmen who live there now call it Mirkwook, and...uh, they s...they say..."Dad said but stopped "Well, don't stop now, tell us what the woodsmen say?"Saruman asked "They speak of a Necromancer, living in Dol Guldur, a sorcerer who can summon the dead"Dad said "That's absurd. No such power exists in this world. This Necromancer is nothing more than a mortal man. A conjurer dabbling in black magic"Saruman said "And so I though too. But Radagast has seen..."Dad said but was cut off by Saruman "Radagast? Do not speak to me of Radagast the Brown. He's a foolish fellow"Saruman said "Well, he's odd, I grant you. He lives a solitary life"Dad said "It's not that. It's his excessive consumption of mushrooms. They've addled his brain, and yellowed his teeth. I warned him. It is unbefitting one of the Istari wandering the wood..."Saruman said I didn't hear more as mom talk with her mind to me "You carry something. It came to you from Radagast, he found it in Dol Guldur,Gandalf gave it to you"Mom said "Yes" I replied "Show me"Mom said I nodded and got the sword wrapped in a cloth out my jacket and placed it on the table "What is that?"Lord Elrond asked "A relic of Mordor"Mom said "A Morgul blade"Lord Elrond said as he unveils the sword "Made for the witch-king of Angmar, and buried with him. When Angmar fell, the men of the North took his body, and all that he possessed and sealed it within the high fells of Rhudaur. Deep within the rock they buried him, in a tomb so dark it would never come to light"Mom said "This is not possible. A powerful spell lies upon those tombs, they cannot be opened"Lord Elrond said "What proof do we have this weapon came from Angmar's grave?"Saruman asked "I have none"Dad said "Because there is none. Let us examine what we know. A single orc pack has dared to cross the Bruinen. A dagger from a by-gone age has been found. And a human sorcerer who calls himself the Necromancer, has taken up residence in a ruined fortress. It's not so very much, after all. The question of this dwarvish company however, troubles me deeply. I'm not convinced, Gandalf. I do not feel I can condone such a quest. If they'd come to me, I might have spare them this disappointment. I will not pretend to understand your reasons for raising their hopes..."Saruman said "You knew"Mom said I gave her a knowing look "I'm afraid there's nothing else for it"Saruman said just then Lindir interrupts our meeting "My Lord Elrond. The dwarves, they've gone"Lindir said out of breath.
