He was so warm. His soft-smelling cologne, the warmth radiating from his chest, the sand squishing in between our toes, my body fitting perfectly in his. It was perfect. Better than anything I've ever experienced.
"Y/n," he said in a soft, yet deep voice. That perfect monotone voice that always broke through my thoughts, did it once more.
"Hm?" I hummed, enjoying the light breeze and the warmth of the sun on my face.
"You zoned out again," he tiredly sighed.
"Oh, sorry," I apologized, sad that what had happened wasn't real. I knew he would never love me back. He couldn't. No one could. Not even my parents.
"You're spiraling again," he uttered. He could always tell what I was thinking, seeing as how he had been my best friend ever since I was a young and naive little girl who thought he would love me.
"Sorry," I apologized once more.
"Don't be," he responded with a small smile, readjusting himself in the rocker on his porch.
Like I said, I'll always be just his friend.
