ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He could have walked in on us.
I was going to have him up on a stick and burn him alive.
How dare you interrupt us on our date since forever.
"Before you burn a hole through my head with that look.." Ace looked at me annoyed. "We have a problem."
"What?" My anger dissipated.
"How big?" Elric was annoyed as well.
"As in life or death." Ace answered.
"I'm going to need you to elaborate," Elric told him..
Ace pulled out his phone, followed by a scoff. "Oh elaborate huh..Let me read you the email I got while I was having dinner. It was a real treat for me."
Dear Elric and Ace of "Game Enterprise"
We regret to inform you that you have been disqualified from the world game development championships.
After a complaint that the game you had submitted, is plagiarized, we're doing a thorough search whether those claims are true. While there was no problem with the initial background check, per regulations we have to disqualify you from this competition until we close the investigation.
We understand this is an inconvenience and we hope the investigation will prove it was your original idea. We'll be back to working again soon as you have been a fan favorite throughout the first few months of our competition.
We hope you stay well.
Ace finished reading the email looking at us. "THEY HOPE WE STAY WELL!"
Oh no..
How??? Why??
I was shocked. Baffled. Bewildered. Perplexed by this notion.
Elric on the other side was enraged. He had a really scary look on his face. "I did not plagiarize that game!!! It's mine!"
"I know!!!" Ace yelled as angry as Elric was. "I had a lawyer make sure we had all rights to it. I actually had it covered. How did this happen???"
We all ran downstairs and we turned on the computers. Elric sat down and brought the email up on the screen.
He started typing.
"What is he doing?" I asked.
"Making sure this email is legit and not from a fake source."
Elric suddenly slammed this hand on the desk. "It's theirs. It's the real deal."
"Write them an email. Make sure you tell them we have papers on it. See if they can reinstate us in the morning." Ace told Elric and brought out his phone. "I'll call our lawyer and ask her if she can talk to them as well."
Elric started typing like crazy.
An hour later I brew them some coffee and brought it to them outside. They were both sitting on the stairs outside the house, their faces in despair. They were waiting for an email or a call or anything to tell them this was not happening.
I handed them the mugs.
Elric took it but Ace was ignoring me.
I sat down between them two and made Ace take the mug.
"At this point, you'll be up all night. God knows when they're gonna call you guys back."
"Well thanks a lot." Ace spat the words out irritated
"But.." I smiled. "This is not something you should panic about. In the beginning, you were jumping about every little thing in the competition. Afterward, you got used to it and approached things differently. This is just a minor setback."
"Minor setback? We've been disqualified. " Ace looked down. "What are we going to do if we don't get back in the competition?"
Elric nodded. "Honestly to hear that I stole someone's game makes me sick to the stomach." He looked at the ground as well.
I tapped their backs. I knew it was hard for them. "You two will figure it out. If I got that email I would just sit at home and cry. I don't have the guts to call a lawyer. You're already ready to sue them. So I trust that you two will fix it. You will get your game back in that competition and win it."
They both relaxed a bit and stared in the night sky.
"I just hope we don't lose too much time." Ace sighed.
