skating... at least trying to

I received a very important message at 10:30 from Olivia to bring my skateboard. So, I grabbed my skateboard and kneepads-- even though I knew she wasn't going to wear them. I drove to the location she dropped. It was an abandoned building that had a large parking lot.

She stood in the middle of the parking lot underneath the only working streetlight. She was wearing and oversized hoodie with shorts, and of course she had to have the bucket hat. I stuffed my free hand into my hoodie pocket as I walked towards her. I held up my skateboard and shook it.

She smiled so big my heart started to melt. She ran towards me and wrapped her arms around my midsection. "Hey," she whispered.

"Hey." She let go and stared at me. I handed her the skateboard. She went to move on it, but I stopped her. "Nu-uh, knee-pads." I smirked holding them up. "No boo-boos."

She took off her shoes and slipped the kneepads on. "Okay. I'm ready now," Her smile still remained. God, I'm in love with her.

"Okay." I grabbed her hips and placed her on the board. She yelped in surprise. "One foot on." I used my foot to kick her legs apart. "One foot on the ground." She nodded, biting her lip.

"Okay, now what?"

"You push with the foot on the ground," I said. She pushed and almost fell off, but I still had my grip on her hips so I caught her. "Okay, Ballerina. Let's try that again." She moved to grab that skateboard that rolled away.

"How about you show me?" She asked, handing me the board. I nodded.

"One foot on," I said, putting one foot on the board. I pushed with the foot still remaining on the ground. I rode all the way to the end of the parking lot. Olivia chased after me, I could hear her shoes smacking against the pavement. "I would've come back!" I called. Ten seconds later she had her hands rested on her knees trying to catch her breath. I just laughed at her.

"Okay. Okay. Okay, I'm ready." I laughed at her. She stepped on with her right foot and pushed with her left. This time I didn't have my hands resting on her so she fell and hit the ground. "Why do you make it look easy?" she whined.

"I'm just so good at everything," I said, cockily. She huffed and stood up.

"This was a stupid idea!" She stomped away.

"Liv!" I called, I started to chase after her, "Liv!" She kept walking away. I'm assuming she was going in the direction of her car. "Olivia Rodrigo!" She stopped. I've never called her by her full name before.

She still was turned away from me. As soon as I was close she started walking again. "Olivia will you wait!" She didn't stop. I grabbed her wrist forcing her to look at me now. She had tears in her eyes. She normally got extremely frustrated when she couldn't do things.

"What?!" I wiped her tears away with the pad of my thumb.

"Why are you crying?"

"You're going to think it's dumb," she mumbled.

"Try me."

"Ok. I wanted you to teach me how to skateboard. That's your thing. Skateboarding. And you sometimes write songs with me, dance, act. We do things I do. Things that are me. We never do things that are you. So, I thou-thought that if I could do this one thing it could impress you, and you'd finally ask me out." The tears were falling down her face. I wiped them away.

"Olivia," I started softly. "I'm really, really, glad you wanted to do this. But you fell once. You'll fall a million more times, and I'll catch you every single one of 'em." She stared at me, and sniffled. I leaned in an kissed her.

She kissed back wrapping her arms around my neck. We only pulled away when air was an issue. I rested my forehead against hers. "I think you look pretty in bucket hats."

"You're such a dork," she whispered, pushing me away.

We walked back to where the board was and she tried again, and again.... and again. And again after that. And after that.

I caught her almost every time. Until finally she got it. I earned a kiss for that. I'd do it a million more times for a million more kisses.
