A few minutes earlier, Math Class
May sighed in relief, finally glad that math was done for the day. Sometimes the brunette couldn't understand why the alphabet had to get involved with numbers! Algebra was like her weakness in math, she'd rather do health class than trying to get what the answer was for

"Remember class tomorrow we'll be taking up the assigned questions and start getting into quadratics. Make sure to bring your calculators and not use your phones as a replacement. If I see another phone out during math, I'll confiscated it" said the teacher Drayden Shaga

Many of the students rolled their eyes at the threat, but nodded nonetheless as they started walking out the room. May was about to leave the room herself, when she felt a hand on her shoulder

"Ms. Maple, it has come to my attention that you're struggling in math" the teacher said with May tightening the hold on her backpack straps

"Well math was never my best subject and algebra being my weakest" May awkwardly said

"Either you start shaping up your math skills or it will be summer school for you. Your grades are slipping already and I'd hate to have to call home" said Mr. Shaga in a serious tone, making May nod her head rapidly and leave the room in only a few seconds

Lunchtime
May sighed as she finally got her lunch and made her way towards the table where Lillie currently sat alone. Looking up, the brunette saw Dawn with Ash and his two friends talking about something. Based on the look of his face, it seemed that Ash didn't want to talk about whatever it was they were talking about

Dawn soon left the trio soon after seeing Lillie, while Ash, Gary and Leaf left the cafeteria... not noticing as both Drew and Trip follow them from a distance. Seeing this, May hesitated as to whether she should get involved or not

In the end she walked after the unsuspecting trio, putting her bought lunch into her backpack. She could slowly make out the figures of Gary and Leaf, but no Ash or the other two. Getting worried about might possibly happen to Ash, May found herself bolting in the direction she saw both Leaf and Gary looking at, not hearing their surprise at seeing her pass them

Sighing the brunette slowed down and came to a stop. She had no idea where the boys could have gone to. Suddenly hearing three voices, May hid behind a wall and saw it was Drew and Trip with none other than Paul. Inching closer to the edge May was able to hear that they had come from the gym and as such started making her way towards the PE room

May turned a corner as she suddenly felt herself bump into someone. The brunette was about to tell them to watch where they're going, until she took notice of who it was she ran into

"Ash?" she asked as he turned around with a look of surprise on his face

"May? What are you doing here?" he asked surprise at seeing her

"I-I saw bush boy and blonde jerk follow you and your friends and wanted to make sure nothing happened to you like when we met" May said with her face slightly red

Ash looked surprised at her in shock at her worry towards his well-being "Y-you didn't h-have to c-come all the way h-here for me" he said as his face had a slight tinge of red

May's expression hardened "How many times will I say it, you're my friend Ash Ketchum. Whether you see me as one or not isn't my fault. I mean why do you keep pushing people away from you?"

"I told you it was because I didn't want what happened to Dawn, Leaf and Gary to happen to you as well" Ash said quietly, not able to look her in the eyes. May sighed, knowing this was something that he felt guilty about due to Dawn explaining a few details

"Ash, I'm literally the daughter of the Viridian City police captain. I've been targeted by worse than a bunch of school bullies. You have to stop distancing yourself from those who care about you. I know we've only known each other for a short while... but I care about you. The status of this school sucks and I hate the way you of all people are being treated! You're so kind, caring and smart Ash; you don't deserve anything that's happening to you. I meant what I said that after the whole blindfold thing in gym, you don't have to do this on your own" the brunette said with much emotion

Although he knew it would go against everything he had done and said since that day... Ash couldn't help but think differently about May. There was something about her... something different that Ash felt whenever she's near. Something he never felt with other girls, even girls like Queen of Viridian High; Serena or Tomboy Mermaid; Misty

"I won't pressure you Ash to become my friend. You have to decide if you want to be friends or not. Just know that no matter your decision, I'll always see you as my friend" May sadly said, turning away from the teenager in front of her

As May left the raven haired teen, Ash couldn't help but think about his relationship with the brunette. She was right about a few things... and Ash really wanted to be friends with her... but the thought of her getting pushed around or attacked due to her friendship with him, it was something he didn't want her to suffer. It was bad enough Dawn suffered for awhile until her mother intervened and told the school about how everyone was treating her

'Alright May, I'll give this a trial run and see what people think... if it gets to rough, I'm cutting our friendship, if not than... I'd love to be friends with you'

Alright so we get an Ash and May chapter here again. I'm trying to slowly build up a friendship for these two as you can see by the title name. We also get some context about Dawn's friendship with Ash and how it affected her in a way. No aura in this chapter, wanted to make it a normal teenage conversation without any powers appearing. Lastly we see what Ash truly thinks about May and how in reality he does want to be her friend. Till next time everyone
