Chapter Seventeen

"So what do you want to do today?" Bethany asked the hyper Gwen that kept running around her room. "Careful, I don't want you to hurt yourself"

She ran back to Bethany and she picked her up putting her on her lap.

"I will not hurt myself, Beth, so don't worry" she put her arms around her neck and pecked her cheek.

Bethany chuckled and placed a kiss on her forehead.

"You are adorable, just don't run around too much" she lay on the bed with Gwen on top of her.

Her head rested on her chest as she stroked her hair. They were seated in silence for a while, not until her phone buzzed and she sat up with Gwen still in her arms.

She tried to sit on the bed when she realized she had fallen asleep and was holding her tightly. She chuckled and carried her properly so she is comfy in her arms and placed another kiss on her forehead.

She stood up from the bed and walked up to Gwen's little dresser table to pick up her phone. Ricardo's name flashed on the screen and she swiped to the right and placed it on her ear.

"Mi Amor" came his deep voice. She giggled because of how deep it was and that showed a bit of his Italian accent.

"Hey, baby" she bit her lips and walked back to the bed taking a seat and being careful not to wake up Gwen.

"How are you?" he asked.

"I am good, how are you too?" She tried to place Gwen on the bed but instead, she held her tightly.

"I am good too, sorry that you had to cancel your plan with your bestie to watch over Gwen for me," he said and talked to someone in a hushed tone.

"No it's okay, she was going to cancel anyway so don't feel bad and I really enjoy Gwen's company. No one can ever get bored with her in the house" she replied and tried to put her on the bed but she made a sound like she was going to cry so she had to keep her in place and pet her back.

"Is that Gwen? She's sleeping right?" he chuckled.

"Yes, she is. She won't let me put her down on her bed so she can be comfy."

"Sorry about that, sometimes she can be clingy when she is sleepy," he said.

"It's no problem, I will lay with her soon, when will you be coming home? And what do you want to eat?" she asked and took the remote to switch off the TV.

"I will be home soon, and I will eat whatever you cook," he answered.

"Cook? I did not mention about me cooking" she let out a laugh. "I am ordering take-outs and will heat them up when you get back" she shrugged.

"The effort matters a lot," he replied with a laugh.

"Yeah, wait, are you driving?" she asked when she heard honking in the background.

"Yeah, just leave the parking lot," he answered.

"It is dangerous driving and making a phone call, are you heading home already?" she asked.

"Yes I am"

"Well hang up and when you get home we can talk more, okay? Your safety is important" she said.

"Okay, when I get home then. Do you want me to bring home takeouts instead?" he asked. "Or I could buy some more groceries and make our food?" he asked.

"I wished I paid more attention when mum used to teach us how to cook," she said sadly. "I would have been cooking for you now" she pouted.

"Come on babe, I am not complaining. Although I want to eat something you cook if you can't cook it's no problem, I enjoy making food for us and if you are willing to learn I could teach you" he said and she giggled "mind you I will laugh if you needed, just a heads up"

"I will surprise you," she said

"We will see about that" he answered lowly. "So, take outs or home-cooked food?" he asked again.

"Home-cooked" she said

"Home-cooked it is, I will be back soon, see you then"

"See you too," she said and disconnected the line.

Smiling, she put her phone on the bedside table then lay on the bed and turned so she was laying on her side and so was Gwen. she stretched and opened her eyes a bit before closing them back.

"Daddy will be back soon, okay?" She caressed her hair and kissed her cheeks.

Gwen nods and holds onto Bethany's cloth. Bethany watched her sleep for a while and slowly closed her eyes humming a song from 'Frozen' to her.

"Daddy likes you a lot," she said after some time. Bethany opened her eyes and saw that Gwen's eyes were still closed. Frowning she touched her cheeks and she opened her eyes a bit before closing it.

"Please don't leave my Daddy, he likes you a lot" she spoke again and a smile graced her features.

Drawing Gwen closer she placed a kiss on her forehead then put her on her chest and stroked her back.

"I won't. I can't and I will never" she assured her with a smile still on her face.

She closed her eyes and let sleep take over.

"Here is your package sir" the girl at the counter handed him one grocery bag and two nylon bags.

"Thank you," he said, collecting them.

"Do you need help with that?" she asked, seeing as he tried to balance them.

He looked at her and smiled "yes please" he answered.

"Okay, hold on." she turned to one of the staff that came behind the counter. "Delvin, can you please help him out?" she said to the brown-haired man.

He looked up to Ricardo who had already placed the nylon bag on the floor. He nodded and went out of the counter towards him and picked up the bags.

"Thank you," he said to her and she nodded with a smile.

"You are welcome sir, have a good day"

"And you too" he stepped out of the store and the guy followed him behind.

They walked towards the parking lot and when he reached his car he pressed the button on his car key to unlock it.

"Let's put it in the trunk," he said, guiding him to the trunk of the car. "Thank you, Delvin," he asked after they had put all the groceries in the trunk.

"You are welcome sir, have a nice day" he turned to leave but Ricardo stopped him handing him a wad of dollars as a tip "thank you very much sir"

"Thank you too, bye" he opened his car and got in smiling and imagining Bethany's reaction to what he had planned to cook.

He started his car and drove out of the parking lot to his home.
