Chapter Thirty-Six

"Oh my GOD, I am going to the hospital," Maureen said then stood up from the chair she was sitting on seconds ago.

She went on to grab her purse and was about to leave when Mike's angry voice spoke from behind her.

"Go where? No one knows you there and I doubt they want to meet with the woman that put their loved one in that state" he said then went to pour himself a cup of water.

"I didn't do anything, I wasn't the one who put him in that state. You, punched him and he went unconscious, now I don't know if I will get any chance to be with him again" she threw her hands up in the air and then came back to sit on one of the couches in her hotel room.

"Even I think that my chances to be with Bethany are ruined... like, did you have to come inside and spoil things for me? I things under control there" he winced when he touched his bruised nose.

She looked at him with wide eyes before bursting out into a fit of laughter. What he said was so funny to her ears and she couldn't hold back the laughter.

A frown made its way to his face as he stared at the crazy woman laughing because of what he said.

"I didn't remember being a comedian" he states when her laughter slowly calmed and she looked at him with a straight face and an eyebrow raised.

"Comedian is too good of a word to describe you. We can say you are more of a clown than a comedian" he glared at her when she made that comment but she ignored it and continued. "Ricardo would have beaten you to a pulp if I hadn't come in and interrupted,"

"And I knocked him out," he said and she scoffed.

"He was already disoriented when he saw me and you threw a weak punch so he was knocked out and not because of that punch. A baby can do better and I am so sure your knuckles hurt now" she says.

He was vexed that she was right about it. He was not going to deny that the punch he threw caused him more pain than it would have caused Ricardo but he wasn't going to admit it to anyone or her, not when she already sees him as a wimp.

"Honestly, I don't know what she saw in you. I totally get what she sees in Ricardo aside from him being a fine young father of a girl but you? Where did you guys meet, to begin with," she asked.

"We met in our home country Nigeria, she was already a successful woman when I met her and she was just so perfect and someone you would want to be with. I was working as an errand boy and she saw potential in me and decided to help me with my big dream" he said.

"Interesting story, why did you leave her for my cousin? Don't get me wrong, I am aware of attractive my cousin is but Bethany is a really gorgeous black woman full of love and happiness" she comments and he smiles.

"You quite know something about her"

"Yeah, from stalking her movement and my ex's movement, so tell me about why you left... I have a feeling that the reason is stupid but I still want to hear it"

Ignoring her statement, he continued talking.

"When she brought me here to the states, things were going smooth and we were just friends. I was so appreciative of what she did for me and was starting to like her a bit so I started taking her out for dates, bought her flowers, and just did little things to make her happy and soon we started dating. I didn't know what I was thinking when I asked her to be my girlfriend" he rubbed his chin.

"I think it was when she connected me with one of her business associates who gave me a huge deal I recently messed up. I was overjoyed and took her out then I just blurt it out and it looked like she was really interested in me so I decided to let it flow and we started dating. Normally, I desire fair-skinned girls but she was dark-skinned and we sort of had something going so I just let it go on like that"

"Okay, keep going"

"About some months into our relationship, I met with Elle in a hotel where she worked as a receptionist. I had come into that town for some business and I was totally drawn to her because of her very fair skin. All my stay there, I had forgotten about my girlfriend and was so focused on my new love interest." He shook his head.

"We dated for a couple of months when I opened up about who I was dating but she decided to stay with me and I was cool with it. Already I and Bethany were having some issues even though I brought them up. She is actually saving for marriage and I agreed with her from the start of our relationship but since I was seeing Elle and we were getting intimate, my excuse was that Beth didn't give me what I wanted as a man" he shrugged.

"I had needs and Elle was fulfilling them so I had to just keep it that way, I brought up issues and made it seem like it was her fault then angrily left to go to Elle, it went on for a long time before Beth confronted me and asked what was up but I just told her I needed space so that was what I used to leave her and be with Elle. She found out one way and I thanked her for all that she did for me and that's how things ended with us"

"You guys didn't get closure to your relationship, I am guessing that's why she wanted to see you so that she can move on with my Ricardo," she said and he shrugged.

"Probably but I want her back, ever since I saw her in that restaurant, I haven't been able to get my mind off her and I will not stop till I have her to myself... I plan on going the polygamous way. Men are naturally polygamous so I can have them both o myself and we all win" he relaxed back on the chair and Maureen shook her head then stood up.

"Well, I am glad that Ricardo isn't shallow thinking like you. He is a very authentic man with great taste, too bad our dear Bethany will have to nurse another heartbreak because I am taking what belongs to me... forever"

"You guys were together in the past? What happened with you both?"

"It's not a tale for today but I am so sure of my mission... I had him once and I am not about to lose him again and that to another woman"

She kept pacing in front of her mum, sisters, and brother who were seated on the waiting chair.

A few hours had passed and the doctors are yet to come out and tell them what was going on.

"He will be fine... I am guessing the blow wasn't that hard" Zedd assured her but she didn't listen.

"How about Gwen?" she stopped her pacing ad stood in front of her brother who was looking up at her from where he sat.

"Jade is with her and when I called minutes ago, she said that she was already sleeping," he told her and she nods then continued her pacing.

"Sis, he will be fine... just don't panic too much"

"It was just a blow, he would have just gone out with that childish blow... Ricardo was bigger compared to Mike and the punches he threw were heavy compared to his too so I just don't understand that part" she said.

"We can't just tell how our bodies react to things," Rosalie said.

"But-" she was interrupted by the door of the hospital room opening and footsteps approaching their way.

They all stood up and walked forward to meet with the doctor.

"Good afternoon, sir, ma'am, I am Dr. Pedro and am in charge of Mr. Herman's case"

"Please can you tell me he is fine?" Bethany asked.

The doctor looked at her and then at everyone's worried faces before focusing his gaze back on her.

"I'm sorry ma'am, I wish I could tell you that he is because due to the shock he experienced, he is at risk of a heart attack and it might be so severe that he might not make it," he said and Bethany could feel her heart sink.
