Since we know he is in a mental hospital for youth offenders, I will place the translations of what is described in the story by this unreliable narrator and what actually happened.

He is escorted with the other lunatics to an area where he will sorted (processed) to discover what house (cell block) he will be in. All the kids are lined up and sectioned off to different areas. The minor offenders are to be dropped in the Hufflepuff ward; hardcore criminals join the Slytherin side of the facility. While he's in the facility's cafeteria or mess hall eating, he starts seeing ghosts everywhere floating around and talking to people. When it is his time to be processed, he hears someone say that there is nothing in his head that could not be seen. This is obviously the voice of one of the psychiatrists trying to warn him that he can not lie to them.

They place a "hat" on Harry to "sort him out". This is most likely the headgear that they place on people for shock therapy. I don't know what they look like. I imagine it is probably something like what was worn by Alex DeLarge, not anything classy like he had early on, but more like what was used during the Ludovico technique. Harry has to sit there longer than all the other "students," as he probably needed a lot more zaps to flush the Satan out of him.

He is shifted off to Gryffindor, which I guess is a level under Slytherin. I suppose the people in charge felt sympathy for his rough childhood, or maybe there was proof that he was acting in self-defense. He is warned not to go into the forest surrounding the "School," meaning his is restricted to the grounds, and everywhere he goes has restricted areas where he can only be let through by orderlies and doctors with authorization such as keys and passwords. He goes to bed exhausted, as would be expected from someone who just had fifty-thousand volts sent through his brain.
